V Moda Crossover LP2 vs Beats Studios

Will someone please compare the V2s and the Beats Studios?  Many of my friends have gone ahead and gotten beats out of hype and I'm looking for something better, and at a cheaper price.  I believe most of the veterans on this site have listened to beats, so if one has listened to the V2s, I would love to hear a comparison.  I listen to dubstep, drum and bass, and other things of that nature, and I am a total bass head.  I have heard the bass does not overpower the mids and highs in the V2s.  I would specifically like to know, compared to the beats, how loud the bass is, and how muddy the bass is.  The bass on the beats is super loud, but is muddy beyond belief.  If you have any other suggestions in the <$200 range for an upcoming audiophile, let me know.  Thanks!

I have had the LP2's. They sound great, most likely better than any beats. The bass is definitely powerful, but not overpowering. I'm not an audiophile, but I would say that the bass is not muddy at all. I did listen to Dubstep on them, and when I turned the volume up, I entered a new world. Get the V-modas.

The V-Modas will not have the same sheer quantity of midbass as the Studios (though the Studios actually have zero sub-bass, as some quick testing proves), but they're still pretty bassy and have the quality you're looking for.

Sincerely,

I think we must be speaking of different headphones or something cuz the LP2 is way bassier in the midbass than the Studios. The biggest midbass punch I've ever experienced. Well I've only tested with amp, perhaps LP2 doesn't perform well ampless.

No need to take my word for it though when you can compare the graphs from innerfidelity:

LP2:

Beats Studios:

LP2 have roughly 15dB boost and Studios roughly 10dB.

I don't own both but thank goodness for fantastic e-earphone.jp store in Akiba, you can listen to a wide range of headphones including the two mentioned above.

After listening to both with my source, I'd agree with RPG there. I tested with my Go-DAP DAC/Amp and didn't try un-amped. To me the Studios sounded more (artificially?) bright and sparkly than the LP2 so at least for me, an initial listen the Studios seem to sound "better" until you realise it's somewhat over exaggerated.

By the way, as an aside, personally I think the M-80 is a better comparison to the Studios, whereas the LP2 to compare against the Beats Pros?

You mean LP2? I'm not a fan of the LP2 'cos I find them too dark for my tastes but they're probably more treble neutral in reality. But if I had to put an amp to the LP2, I'd pick one that focuses more on the highs. e.g. my Go-DAP and Pico Slim did a reasonable job. My former HP-P1 wasn't enough.

I read that Stepdance is quite detailed and maybe could go well with the LP2 but I've never tried the Stepdance.

Agreed, I also wouldn't have liked them without EQing. Very recessed highrange for a headphone costing $199 MSRP. My EQ settings for a much more balanced sound without removing the fun bass response:

^ +3.4 at 8kHz and +5.8 at 16kHz, this is even more than what's needed for Sony XB500 for example:

With above EQ settings they both have roughly similar balance (EQ'd to fit my personal "optimal balance"). But then again LP2 were meant to listen to loud and for "club" kind of experience which makes sense with recessed highs so you can turn up the volume more without getting ear fatigue from the highs. I personally prefer listening with as low volume as possible for an enjoyable experience which is when EQing becomes very important for me personally to get the right amount of bass to please a basshead as well as mids and highs that play well together with that volume level.
