I just went with a thin slice of a bike inner tube.  Works just as good.

I liked the idea of using a piece of tyre tube though. that's something I haven't heard of. I have an assortment of rubber bands here all shapes and sizes / colours. which fit all my DAP's and any amp combo.

I just purchased 10 small bands for $6.99 with free shipping on eBay from user kapicka. He has a wide assortment and you can customize orders. These were closeout stock , but the listing provides links to regular stock and other styles. Link is provided below.
