I know this has been asked a bajillion times but I need fresh opinions, HD600 or 650? Everyone...

Which is better?  I've always wanted the 650s and they were $350 on amazon each time I checked and on the day that I was gonna purchase the 650s from amazon, they bumped the price to $470 then less than a week later they were $500.  I heard the 600s were gonna be discontinued and Amazon took it off their site but now it's back on again for $314 and it looks like they will sell their remaining ones they have left.  Im planing on using it mostly on my computer but I'm gonna occasionally use it for my Ipod touch 3GS too.  I listen to all genres but mostly pop, hip hop, rock, metal and R&B.  Also gonna get the E9 and E17s when they come out.  Just curious, how much better are the E17 compare to the E7?  And will E9+600 combo sound bad on my computer without the E17 or E7?  Cause I might order real soon and I won't be with the E17 cause its not released yet.  Also the best headphones I've ever owned are Klipsxch Image One which I heard is crappy,

Just get the HD600. They're similar enough not to warrant the $200 price difference.

The 600 and 650 sound different, so check ALL the reviews to decide which might sound better to you.

Yet, I will say that the 600's are easier to drive, and will pair better with an e9+e17 combo than the 650's would.

Also, if you're going to use the headphone with an ipod, the 600's sound decent, and I've read that the 650's aren't recommended without a good amp.

I have the 600's with the e9+e10, and it sounds real good.

However, I use other cans for hip-hop as the 600's don't produce a heavy hitting bass punch (650's are said to have more bass).

I'd still go with the 600's, and maybe use the EQ on the e17 to produce some more bass.

Plus the 600's are cheaper.

The e17 is 18.555432% better than the e7 rolleyes.gif

Hehe - honestly, I haven't heard the e17, so I can't compare, but I didn't like the e7 at all. But from what I hear, the e17 is supposed to be considerably better. And the e17 allows you to use the EQ functions when pairing it with the e9 (as opposed to the e7 or e10).

An e9+600 combo might not sound amazing without a DAC, but if you are planning on getting an e7 or e17 later, I'm sure waiting a month or so will be ok.

....but what do I know?!

I was in the situation you're in now. I was originally gonna purchase the 650 but after doing research Amazon upped the price. I figured while I was waiting for it to drop again (seems like it fluctuates fairly often) I would research even more and just bought the 600 today. I can't really add much more than what has already been touched on but most people agree that the 600 is more neutral and thats why I pulled the trigger. I already have my "fun" headphones and wanted something to compliment them which the 600 seems like it will do well.

Can't really comment on amps yet, I'm still deciding on what to get but the Asgard is probably my frontrunner which is the other thing I liked about the 600, sounds like it will fit better on a more amps.

Seriously, you probably could just search for something like "HD 650 vs. HD 600" or "HD 650 or HD 600" and get almost an endless amount of threads, I would start there.

It is my opinion that most people would be better served by researching this sort of thing for themselves rather than just asking others to tell them what to get.

On that note, unless you are going to EQ them per the picalo namek thread you should get the HD650. Wait for a set to come around second hand - mucho better price for the same thing.

+1 to that. You have no knowledge of what the person answering "hears" or likes - far better to access the headphones in question and audition for yourself if you can.  The ones that sound best to you will be the best ones regardless of spec, or the opinions of others.
