Full sized headphones to carry around?

Thread Starter

I was just curious on what some opinions were about full sized headphones that aren't to bad to throw in a bag with a portable dac and take places?  I tend to consider an appropriate size headphone to carry around to be around the size of the ATH-m35s.  That's what I carry with me now.

So if you have a pair of full-sized you take with you, what are they, and what are your opinions on it?  I'm just curious on the general consensus myself.  As well as maybe looking into upgrading my portable full-sized phones, because the m35s feel pretty low-end to me even just compared to my modest AD900s.

I usually just take my SRH440's when i'm out. Even though they are over ear. their light clamp and pads feel like they are almost on ear and are easy and mobile. the long cable i just tuck into my jeans.... :/

I used to carry around my Sony MDR-7506. It folds nicely and is built like a tank. Now I just use IEMs.

I carry my HD 600s around just about everywhere, powered by an iBasso PB1.  Great transportable setup.  I've got new toy syndrome with the T50RP right now though.

how do those do outside...aren't they open? Do you hear a lot of interferance or is it all just drowned out :D

Yes, they're very open, although you do get a bit more high frequency attenuation than Grados.

Mostly I keep them in my bag until I get somewhere, and then get them out to use.  They're very lightweight and durable, so you don't have to baby them (well, as long as you don't mind the paint on the grilles wearing off over time).

No, they're not ideal for everyone.  In fact, I may find the T50RP better for portable use before too long... But I don't have enough experience with them yet.

usually take my SRH750DJ if I don't feel like taking an IEM. only problem is the coiled cable. moves about too much

i've thought of going out wearing with more portable headphones sometimes. i've been thinking of gRado's..but there are other portable closed cans that are good in that range...ike the T50RP. how is the sound? i have never heard a planar magnetic headphone. what's so diff about them?

shure's are always portable..be it their closed or IEM lines of course.....until now. with the new 1000x series open headphones. if you are like blackbeared ben..i guess i could wear them out...but....meh.

I'm getting two IEM's for use out. They are nto actually  IEM's. just earbuds that have gotten great price to performance reviews on he4ad fi. the soundmagic pl11 i bought is compared to and extremely similar tot he Sennheiser CX300 and the MP8320 is a favorite amongst budget people...total spent is $17 for these. i'm thinking of getting the CKM50's after DSNUTS and others reviews too. but my main thing i am looking at is the GR07 and TF10
