Seems like another affordable tube amp from China??

WHAAAAAAT?!?! $230?!?!

Holy smokes. We gotta get some and stuff it with JJ's.

That's a beauty. It almost has me thinking about... No. No, no.

The headphone jack placement is a bit novel. "Do I smell a Clou Red smoking or is there a car accident nearby?"

Thanks for doing the homework. That's it. I'm getting one. I don't know which one (I know I like OTL design, but I also know I like 6BQ5's...), but I'm getting one...

I'm confused -- isn't the 6DJ8 the same tube that's in the X-CAN (6922, 7308, etc.)? I thought that was an input tube, but then I stumbled upon this article...can someone translate?
I guess one tube is the driver and then they paralled the two sides of the remaining tube per channel. Remember you only need milliwatts to drive your headphone.

As for the article all it is saying is becareful about buying tubes. Sometimes they aren't as good as the spec for that type.

On that note on guitar sites it is often said not to sub 6dj8 for 6922 since circuits designed for 6922 will provied too much current and burn out the 6dj8 quicker. Other way round OK. This may not apply to higher spec E88CC.

Let us know what you think when you get it. I am tempted to spring for one as well, even without being able to audition one.

Cool.

I have always thought that 6922, 6DJ8 and E88CC meant the same thing?

Yes !

Yes ! 6DJ8 is same as 6922 but difference only. This type of OTL headphone amps sound great but only can drive high impedance Headphone like HD600. I had try simuliar circuit as X-can but only can drive not lower than 150 Ohm. It can add a transformer to covert to low impedance. You may consider to buy it to drive a high impedance first and buy a transformers type headphone adapter for low impedance Headphone.

That's a damn fine question. I will probably be getting both the 02 and the 03 and keeping the one I like better, and selling the other and my X-CAN and X-PSU (selling them separately because I also have an X-PRE I am selling, and don't really care which one it goes with).

But don't wait on a review from me, this won't be happening any time soon, I got too much going on right now. (Dammit -- that 02 looks like it would work really well in an office environment. But that 03 is sooo cute!)

Hey, Joe -- doesn't it depend on the application? I kind of get the impression that you can use the 6DJ8 as both an input stage and a driver, but not the 6922. If it's as an input stage, then they are swappable, if as a driver tube, then better stick to 6DJ8? Please correct me, as I am in no way a DIY guy or anything; I'm very new at this tube stuff. I just know that I love them.

6922/E88CC are the superior versions of the 6DJ8/ECC88.

You can use 6922/E88CC's as a substitute for 6DJ8/ECC88's... but not the other way around.

It's been some time now...

Did anyone end up ordering one of these? DustyChalk?

Why do I imagine a pain in the lower regions when I look at that thing? What's good about OTL? Doesn't tube gear get much of its goodness from the transformer?

No, not yet. Am pursuing it seriously. Need to sell some gear first (anyone want my X-CAN/X-PSU?).
