V-MODA M-100: Discussion/Feedback, Reviews, Pics, etc. - Page 164

First Songs:

  • Cage the Elephant : Ain't no rest for the whicked (Soundstage, imaging, instrument separation)
  • Skrillex: Kyoto (attack, bass punch & extension, treble)
  • PrototypeRaptor: Fasten your seatbelt (Euphoria, PRaT, Bass extention, imaging)
  • Anything by Lana Del Rey.... just because its awesum

But first and Foremost : Pretty Lights: Wayfaring Stranger,

its a ruthless flaw revealing song, that will destroy any weakness in the chain, heck it even makes my D7000 midrange unbearable.

One comment... OMFG OMFG OMFG...

To me, this is the best sound I've ever heard, if you don't agree, it is okay.  But our team has found its "holy audiophile grail".

I don't know how to make Revolver sound better, ****.  At least today...

:O So what is that "one small part?"

"Yet, we encountered one small part that would hurt "golden ear" audiophiles that may hold up production. "

Hm... Too loud in high freqs, going to require a rolloff, or some means to filter it out?  Is Val going to set faders on stun?

Could be a spike in the midrange somewhere, or maybe it's a design element of some sort.  Guess we'll see in due time!  Maybe tomorrow's update.

I realize this will make me sound like a V-Moda fanboy, but Val is striving for perfection to create a headphone for not just all of us, but headphones that gives him goosebumps, unlike some other manufacturers who recently slapped a new shell on old drivers and jacked up the price to make a quick buck.  As much as we all want them in our hands (and we do!), the consensus seems to be that perfection is worth the wait.

I'm betting on an upper-mid resonance spike. At least it seems to be sound related based on his wording, many headphones suffer from upper-mid ringing at $300 or below , AKG K550 which got quite glorious reviews had it, I'd gladly even wait 1 month longer for a fix for such, I sold my LP2 partly due to this, yet I see no1 commenting on that, guess I belong to the "golden ear" audiophiles that have higher demands.

Kind of what I was getting at... It also worked well with going along with the Star Trek motif Val is using.  I admittedly read a bit into his choice of the word "hurt"; which is why I thought of the faders, and Val's crusade against hearing loss from higher freq's being too loud.  I'm guessing that faders might be the little surprise feature, perhaps even a custom version of them tailored to work with the M-100.

I think the first song for me will be Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.  It's typically one of the first 3 or 4 out the gate.
