The V-Moda M-100s...

...are closed circumaural cans meant keep in step with the M-80s more audiophile-pleasing sound signature.

...will most certainly be an upgrade SQ wise from the M-80s.

...have hinges, so they will be foldable.

...will be using 50mm drivers.

...have a secret additional feature that has not yet been revealed.

...do not require an amp, but will scale well if you decide to use one.

...do not have a definite price yet, but are estimated to cost around $300.

...are current expected to be released somewhere around late July to early August.

...will be released in two colors--White/Silver and Shadow.

...will use the same custom shields as the LPs/LP2s. You can get the shields for 20% off using the promo code M-100MANIA.

...will come with a case, 3 cables, and a 3.5 mm to 1/4 in plug. The 3 cables are an audio only cable, and iphone compatible cable with controls and a mic, and an android compatible cable with a mic.

Pages with pictures:

- Early pictures of the M-100s on page 1

- Original color designs on page 67

- page 91

- page 92

- page 93

- Early picture of the case on page 102

- page 105

- page 150

- Pictures and early impressions by Anakchan on page 152

I think we should repeat this every other post for the newbies, or at least once per page.  It would hopefully eliminate the "So, what is the M-100 going to be like?" posts.

$200 M-80: small and sophisticated, amazing sound
$300 M-100 our current flagship that we feel is a BARGAIN at only $299 as it competes with the TOL audiophile brands yet adds fashionable elements
So, in my eyes I still use M-80 more in fact and in white to be "fashion forward".
For critical listening and "I Want to cry hearing the crystal clear sound", nothing in in the world comes close to M-100 and VAMP.

I think we can say for sure it will be $300.

Am I the only one who has fantasies about how their music will sound with the M-100's?

You're not the only one.

I was lucky enough to read a few months ago, that V-MODA itself was making updates in these forums, and I read and had a very good idea what to look for. So, I just followed that user's posts since then :D . Until now, that I'm actually interacting in the thread, and it would be only responsible to read everything, at least if I'm making frequent posts. And by everything I mean, from the time that I start frequently posting in the thread. Whew, that last sentence was the edit. Otherwise It could've been the cause of another argument :)

Haha, an alternate version of this video http://youtu.be/VLnWf1sQkjY including the M-100. Well, this is the original video. The alternate version is in my head, lol.

The distinction would actually be right, unfortunately is this minor difference often ignored and 'super' / 'supra' are used as synonyms (which they are not).

Thanks for your summary. I've followed this thread all along since the beginning. For someone starting right now I think its really hard to find the (few) relevant bits between all the guesswork regarding features and reasons for features and / or color combinations and pre-release models...

I've been following this discussion quietly as I'm undecided as of yet. I do not like the looks of the M-80, miss a bit of sparkle in the highs and consider the bass volume to much. Most points seem to be better with the M-100 (it even looks a bit better to me due to the bigger cups), so I'm basically waiting for more reports on the sound quality of the actual production models.

And yes: I really appreciate Val giving updates and a bit of an inside look into the development of a complex electronics product.

I am actually deciding on the first song I will play with them.  I'm deciding between Going back to Cali by LL Cool J to test the bass, Perfect by Alanis Morissette to test the vocals or Baba O'Riley by The Who because it is my favorite song of all time.  If anyone else wants to share their thoughts, it might be a great distraction from having the knowledge we still need to wait for at least a few more weeks for the pre-production units.

Some good choices. I plan on testing the bass with Hyperballad by Bjork and some hip hop. For vocals I might use PJ Harvey and Led Zeppelin.

I can create the "Launch" impressions/review thread once we have a concrete ship/release date - that way people won't have to go through 175+ pages of info here to find simple info. I'll be sure to use BlackCoffeex1's info he gathered, with links to each nugget - as well as official links to the V-MODA page and such.

This will be the anticipation/feedback to V-MODA thread, while the other one will be the launch/impressions/reviews thread.

That's a great idea.

I'm pretty sure my first song will be "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" by Arcade Fire. One of my top 2 songs, it also happens to be a great test for instrument separation (lots of instruments)/layering, PRAT, a piano for natural treble sparkle, texture/definition, etc... but most of all because it's a song that usually shoots shivers up and down my spine within the first 3-5 seconds biggrin.gif

I also like Bjork's "Hyperballad," but I tend to test bass presence with "Angel" by Massive Attack (the first couple seconds are very heavy) and bass texture with the first few seconds from "Undisclosed Desires" by Muse. I also have songs that highlight treble sparkle (tho as I said, the piano from Tunnels does a good job of that for me), male vocals, female vocals, realism and soundstage (I've found nothing better for this than good 'ol Classical), etc. I actually have a whole playlist for testing different characteristics of equipment set up, and I use it consistently whenever I want to test. Doesn't hurt to pick songs you love too ^_^

As far as posting an index/summary every other post or every page, well... That may be a touch excessive, but do it if you want lol. You could link to blackcoffeex1's index in your signature, quote it when somebody asks, and/or recommend searching Val's posts. But like I said before, I doubt the original poster is going to update their first post with a thread index, and attend it like a job to keep it updated with reviews.

Once again - it has, and I believe it as JUST recapped as well.

But anyway - yes, it will be smaller, about half the height, but a bit thicker - this is all because of the folding design that saves room overall.
