V-MODA M-100: Discussion/Feedback, Reviews, Pics, etc.

Hi.  I have a pair of V Moda Crossfade M100 and they have a problem.  The volume is very quiet most of the time when I listen to them.  Sometimes when the cable moves suddenly the sound become louder briefly.  They just started doing this.  I noticed the button on the Android cable being pushed makes the sound way louder while the button is pressed or held down.  I am guessing that the part above where the cable plugs in to the earcup has a connection issue or a short.  What could the problem be?  It it easily fixable?  They are out of warranty.

This is gonna sound odd, but do you have the V plug in the side that the wire isn't plugged in?

Maybe the cable is wearing out. Have you tried flipping the cable and plugging the 45 degree end into the headphones and the straight plug into your source? You could also try using a different cable.

I tried both cables that came with my M100.  I also tried both ends of said cables in the earcup.  I have tried both earcups and same thing as well,  Might be a wiring issue or maybe an unlucky pair of worn out cables.  I don't have any other cables to test with.  My LP cables have both been thrown away because they both got damaged so I would probably need to buy new cables when the funds become available.

Sounds like you might want to go through their Immortal Life program to get 50% off a new M-100 or Crossfade Wireless. I don't think there's much else to try.

Okay.  I will get to it when I have more disposable money.  It seems to be a sort of intermittent problem. I noticed the right driver is much quieter too.  Possibly channel imbalance?  I don't really feel I want another pair of M100.  Can anybody recommend a pair of fully closed back over ears with good strong bass and not v shaped with not super bright treble and a good soundstage?

Hey! Completely new to Head-Fi here.

I wanted new headphones for Christmas, and put several weeks of research into finding the ones I wanted most (right sound signature, closed, collapsible etc.). I decided on the m100s a few weeks ago, and I got them last Monday. Because I was concerned about their proper functioning, I was allowed to demo them for the night (5 hours ish) to be sure that they were what I wanted and that they weren't broken (and they'd be returned back to me on Christmas day). I really enjoy their sound, as they're the first set of headphones I've owned that aren't included with your phone (currently using earpods until Christmas).

Anyway, here's the point of this post! My ears are massive (about 3 inches, or 75mm tall), and the default pads sit on my ears (even more than I knew they would) at the top, the lobe, and on the sides. Would the XL pads benefit my experience? I know that even the XL pads would sit on my ears (although I don't know why ear pad measurements aren't advertised), but I'm wondering if they'd still improve their comfort. My rational is that since the XL pads will still sit on the edges of my ears, they won't be any comfier. All of the reviews rave about how much better they are than the originals, but I'm assuming that these reviews are by people who's ears are small enough to be fully surrounded by the default pads already, or are surrounded by the XL pads (thus making their review moot to me, who has large ears).

If I have to deal with the stock pads, that's ok, it just hurts after 45 minutes or so. If I could bump that up to even an hour and a half I'd be real happy.

tl;dr - I got the m100s. They're uncomfortable and sit on my ears because my ears are huge. The XL pads will probably still sit on my ears, but I want to know if that will be at least a little comfier (even if they still don't surround my ears completely).

Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion.  I tried the Audeze EL8 closed and loved them from my very brief trial.  I live in a very rural part of Northern California in driving distance and I do not really travel so I have to ask on here.  I will try the Oppo PM3 first now since they are a bit cheaper.

I know.  I am over 300 miles north of Mountain View.  I am way up in Northern California by Chico.  Mountain View is the south Bay Area.

Sorry about that.  Mountain View is about 30 miles from my house.  You can probably try the PM-3 at Marihart Audio about 66 miles from you in Weimer.
