V-MODA M-100: Discussion/Feedback, Reviews, Pics, etc. - Page 1333

I didn't / don't find the treble on the M-100 sparkly at all. I would describe it as reticent. I actually have a Neutron profile for the M's which has just a tad of treble & mid lift dialled in.

I happened to be at a Best Buy earlier today, and I did not see any V-Moda models. Although it probably varies from store to store.

BestBuy is where I bought my M-100. It was hanging on the rack among the gamer headphones.

My store doesn't carry them. I went last week.

The HD558s sound Almost the same as my pair at home there. I wish there was some other place to try them but I guess not.

Maybe see if there's a head-fi meet up near you? It's ok not to like the M-100's. So many headphones out there.

Or maybe @Fuzziekiwi can go back to Brookstone and ask them to open up a box and let you listen to that with your own music.

Can you actually do that?

Does anyone own a M50 and M-100 and can compare them? I just tried a M50 today.

I did that last year at BestBuy when the Momentum came out and they did not have a sample on display.

Hi to all!
I bought a M-100 some weeks ago and I have a little annoying problem with them. The right ear cup won't stop making a cracking or creaking noise, especially when I walk or chew gum with them. It's some part in the right cup that must be loose. That's a little detail, but it's really annoying when you want a perfect sound and hear this.

Anyone have this problem too? Should I return the unit to receive another one, or do they all make that sound?

Thanks a lot for your opinion.

I still have my M50 although I don't use it anymore.  From what I remember, the M50 has a much larger V sound to my ear.  The trebles are very strong and can get strident sometimes.  Mids are very recessed.  Bass packs a good punch but doesn't go as low as the M-100's.  Sound detail retrieval are not as good as the M-100.  For me, the M50 was really fatiguing to use.  It just wasn't smooth.  Too much treble and too much bass with not much else in between.  But maybe that's a sound you like.  The M50 has been a very popular headphone and still is today.

Well that's my 2 cents.

Oh, I should mention I typically listen to ALAC on a 5th gen iPod with a VAMP VERZA or a Sony Z1s with Neutron Player.  Genre's are mostly JPOP, POP, Jazz and some classical.

Would it not be possible for you to buy the M-100's from Amazon and return them if you're dissatisfied?

That's almost certainly happening where the yoke sits into the locating lug. First you need to make sure it's not inside the ear cup so gently remove it from the yoke and give it a gentle shake. Can you hear anything loose? If so my advice ends there. They'll need to go back to V-Moda. If there's no noise put them back together and see if this has made a miracle cure (it happens). If the noise is still there then take the cup out of the yoke again and place a tiny bit of grease on the tips of the yoke. Rub it all around and then wipe it all off again. Re-set the cups and the noise should be gone. If you haven't got any grease then use cooking oil. Failing that use butter. Remember to remove any residue afterwards (smelling of chips ain't cool). Do not, under any circumstances, use WD-40 or similar. These could possibly react badly with the plastic of the cups.

Good luck.

Oh it's possible but not right now. Need to get some money. Applying for some jobs this weekend. My friend is getting an M50 and he said I could borrow them so that's good news.

I have no idea what's going on inside those units, but I just knew it wasn't quite right, even when I could stick my phone on it. The cable coming out was NOT straight from the headphones themselves and something weird was there.. I took a gamble and bought the pair anyway and boy was it a good idea.

Interesting. That was exactly my own experience at Brookstone too!

Besides the sales person kept pushing me towards the Monster ones  instead which indeed sounded better under that display but luckily because the M-100 had one channel that kept going out she decided to open  the display to let me connect to it directly and a BIG difference there. Then I connected it to my E18 and that sold it for me.

Maybe they get some comission selling monster stuff. I recall from being a manager at RadioShack before that they provided such incentives in the past.

Regards
