V-MODA M-100: Discussion/Feedback, Reviews, Pics, etc. - Page 1226

Just got my m100's a few hours ago and I've already found out a quick, easy and totally reversible way to tame the bass just a tiny bit,

I've just placed 1 layer of 3m transpore tape on the inside of the shield covering the v-ports.

the tape can be purchased here: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Transpore-Tape-10-Box/dp/B000K3HSIO

or you might be able to find it at a pharmacy for less.

The impact on sound was small but I think it's just the right amount to give just a bit more clarity and less "boom"

This might also be a good way to cancel out the slightly boosted bass gained when switching to the XL pads.

I also imagine you could add more than one layer to have a more dramatic effect.

Here are a few pictures of the tape applied

I'm more interested in what a different DAC could bring to the party. Having said that though all this time I've been playing catch-up on this thread and I've now got to the bit where people are saying the XL pads actually improve the sound. I can't say I have any real comfort issues with the stock pads but the XL's are definitely food for thought. Unfortunately the pads don't seem to be available on Amazon over here and the idea of waiting for them to be shipped all the way from the US doesn't appeal.

I don't know if I'd say they "improve" sound, they just change it.  Bass is a little boomier and the soundstage is slightly wider.  I suppose it all depends on your preference.

As for the XLs...well they are on 4-6 week backorder from V-MODA direct...so it's gonna be a while no matter what.  Unless you can find someone on here that's willing to part with theirs after not being happy with them.  I've used mine with and without the pads and I'm pretty sure if you're ears are comfy in the stock pads, you should just stick with them.

for what its worth, i didnt feel the XL pads changed the sound so much.. if youre comfortable, i wouldnt bother. its like what dbdynsty25 said, the sound changed slightly, i wouldnt say it improved

Thanks guys. Nah, I'm happy with the fit as is to be honest. I'm a tweaker though, what can I say. I'll save my money for now I think. M hoping it's dry tomorrow so I can wear my cans while walking the dogs. It's a pity I've got such cool looking headphones with nobody to impress. We live in the middle of nowhere and go for months without seeing anyone around here. Of course that has its advantages also.

I see Nuforce have a new portable amp out, wonder what that sounds like?

Want my VERZA? It works for Android and tuned with the M100 in mind.

im not saying you should try it, but im pretty sure i remember someone on this thread posting pictures of a wet pair of m-100 he had apparently worn in the rain and they were quite fine

Yeah miceblue threw his in water and they still worked after. I don't know if Im confusing things but I think he might've mentioned they sounded a bit off though.
I've worn mine in the snow (I live in Canada.. ) several times and they're fine.

@Dr Sheep/other Verza owners,
What's your impression of the sound of the M100 and Verza? I've always wanted to try it out or buy it but I don't got a local store that has it, and it's a few hundred dollars more than I'd like to spend.

This is a post concerning any water exposure concerns you may have. I had similar questions and this resolved any confusion or worry for me.

Think that may be me but no I didn't throw it in the water, it "slipped" in (see the click me in my moniker). It did sound off straight after fishing it from the pond but 12 hrs later after dismantling and drying it with my hairdryer it's fine.

I'm not a Verza owner, but I've used one a few times and the effect it has on the M-100 is amazing. It's hard to describe, but it made all my music sound more dynamic and powerful. Think of it as adding nitro to your already fast sports car.

Which one do you have, and how much? ;)

The Verza's probably the ideal but even a used one is probably going to be too expensive for me. I'm just a White Van Man and don't earn a helluva lot of money. For instance, my wife has still to find out exactly how much these cans cost me. Hopefully she never will. Still, it's better than a drug habit.

I've been reading up on the new Nuforce portable amp but that doesn't cut the mustard either as it doesn't support the pass-through of the Android player controls. I'll wait a while and see how it goes.

Am I alone in thinking all these colourful shield designs people are coming up with are way too Skullcandy for grown-ups? I guess that's why I went for matt black in the first place. Skulls and teeth and all that stuff would make this old man look ridiculous :-D

Only the old school NuForce ICON Mobile does that, but it has been long discontinued.  Also, your M-100 can never be too colorful :).
