For any non-audiophile average consumer  these are most likely the most expensive headphones anyone would normally buy for a long term investment

Hope you will be happy, please share your thoughts then.

You could have ordered them from Newegg and saved another $10. That's where I ordered mine from:

Ciao everybody, I wanted to let you know that I am well and just so busy setting up V-MODA Italy HQ before I am off to London and back to USA. I also am just so busy setting up shop here that I have had to try to take a break from social and forums for a little bit.

M-100 IS NOW #1 IN THE WORLD BY CUSTOMER RANKING - THANKS TO CROWDSOURCING - AND THE NUANCES

Yes, every nuance of every praise and complaint has been analyzed over the last few years of LP, LP2 and M-100 pre production, if it wasn't for that over the last few years we wouldn't be:

M-100 in only a few hundred days became the #1 headphone on Amazon by rating, out of 7,000+ headphones.  Proof that we tried our hardest to build the "greatest sound for the greatest amount of people" and my insane stress (that almost felt like it killed me) and delays in the factories were well worth it.  I am so happy. In fact, our LP2 and LP were in the top 20 as well, so M-100 was a fight but we always knew we had a winner in the DNA. We couldn't have done it without appealing to both the audiophile and modern connoisseur alike for M-100.

I really think M-80/M-100 are revolutionary in the fact that they crossover/crossfade into both the lifestyle and are loved by the audiophile world, yet M-100 is also the top DJ headphone as well. Even the king - Giorgio Moroder -  Scarface, Top Gun, New Order, Kraftwerk and much more (new Daft Punk) is using them @ 73 for his first gig http://www.rbmaradio.com/shows/giorgio-moroder-live-at-deep-space

To get the trebles esp to extend so high without harshness, to make the bass not muddy the mids and extend to sound the way it does was no easy feat in designing the drivers and coils... I am still working on the technology every day and dream of it!  I think this is why everybody is loving it I hope, it wasn't easy...

XL CUSHIONS

We will have another round soon... but like I said "rome wasn't built in a day" and the cushions are especially sensitive to me, it is what took almost 6 years of tuning on M-100 alone so I do feel it is worth the wait. As I say "the fit is the sound", so if I change the fit I also will change your sound...

I still think most people will love the stock cushions size, the proof is in the pudding that we are #1 and top of consumer satisfaction rating in LP, LP2 and M-100.

COILPRO/BOOMPRO

They are in stock and I am just working on the launch sequence.  You can order within a few weeks, promise and they'll ship FAST. I changed the price to $30 or $29.99 for retailers who wish to fool people for a silly penny (V-MODA consumers are smarter than that). If you paid more for our VTF boom pro mic we'll pay u back + more if we you want with special offers.

They didn't mention HE IS THE GUY BEHIND Scarface or Top Gun.. but WIKIPEDIA IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO THIS IS, YOU HAVE HEARD OF HIM.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgio_Moroder

The man, the myth, the legend: The one and only Giorgio Moroder with his US DJ debut, captured live at Deep Space in NYC. We feel love!

One of the true greats of disco and electronic music, Giorgio Moroder brought a very European aesthetic to black American dance grooves. Although Italian by upbringing, Moroder did most of his work in Munich and the influence of Düsseldorf’s Kraftwerk can be heard in his work for Donna Summer, which includes two of the ultimate disco anthems, I Feel Love and Love To Love You Baby. This was motorik music: spacious, trippy, ever-lasting, far removed from the relentless bounce of most disco. Giorgio Moroder is also a supreme composer of soundtracks, scoring an unlikely success with The Chase, the theme from Midnight Express, and his footprints are all over British synth-pop, from Pet Shop Boys to New Order to Human League. It was with the latter’s Phil Oakey that he got his biggest self-credited hit in 1984, Together In Electric Dreams.

Regarding the statement in bold, would it not make sense then, to produce the XL cushions and provide a disclaimer to consumers that changing their cushions may or may not have an effect on the overall sound signature of the headphones? That way you leave it up to the consumer to decide whether that is okay or not. I for one would have no problem with a slight change in tone for the sake of larger, more comfortable cushions. Make them out of velour and I'll buy them the day they become available.

you cannot change the fittings at all no matter what shape/size/material and not change the sound - they are forever tied together. As much as I'd love to make more cushions out of velour, etc we just don't have the bandwidth at the moment but we hope somebody does. And I definitely cannot endorse what you hear.

We are releasing the XL pads and we will put a similar disclaimer to what you mentioned. I still would love to know what % of people are truly demanding this and I worry.... bc everybody seems so happy worldwide and I have heard zero complaints outside of head-fi, quite oddly.  If I'm making a XL pad bc people believe they need it vs really do and have a worse listening experience, it'll create a greater loss for the greater amount of people........

Well, no matter what you decide to do, just know that if and when the XL cushions become available I will be buying them for sure. The M-100 is comfortable as is, but I still would like the cushions to be slightly thicker and larger. They need more depth to keep my ears from rubbing up against the driver enclosures.

After 5 months of owning my M-100 and using it anywhere from 1-4 hours a day, my pads have broken in quite nicely. At first my ears were not fitting into the cushions well but after bringing both cups down three clicks they fit perfectly.

That seems to be the size that everyone uses. Three clicks on each side and it fits like a glove. smily_headphones1.gif

You seem to put quite a lot of focus on amazon. One could easily argue is that source accurate or an accurate representation of the whole world's customer base and to what extent? The problem I see personally here is a lot of the customers aren't the "hi-fi" type, they aren't used to high quality headphones, they are used to less than ideal comfort etc. While people on places like head-fi are often more used to high quality products so their demands are probably the higher than the average of amazon customerbase (I know a lot of hi-fi people also buy from amazon but they are certainly not the only customers)

Then we have the V-Moda brand, a brand that has grown to become a more serious company among enthusiasts recently but if you think about it, the traditional headphone enthusiast probably doesn't think of (or some of them doesn't even know about the brand still). V-Moda have a more stylish approach which may also put off some more "serious listeners", typically you don't get style + sound quality in the same package at least at affordable prices. My point here is, your customerbase on amazon and similar places may be skewed towards the "street hipster"-base, aka <insert-any-rap-endorsed-headphone here> that wants to have flashy stuff, this customer base will have lower demands and are easier satisfied. Here's something for you to think about; if you manage to totally win places like head-fi over in all possible aspects, it will be a piece of cake to win customers over anywhere else. Head-Fi and other headphone enthusiast communities have higher demands so if you win these people over, you should easily win the rest. Also if places like these love some products the rumors will quickly spread elsewhere outside hobbyist headphone communities, also something to think about if you are unsure whether it's worth "fixing something for head-fi only". Fixing for head-fi means also fixing reputation for the rest of the world <-> it is all bound together.

Cracking headphone cup issue

And finally I want to point out the issue about cracking headphone cup near the screws at the corners. I think this is something you should look into, far too many people have had it cracked at the exact same spot. My own suggestion would be to introduce thin rubber washers to put underneath the screws (or simply use screws with preinstalled washers) in order to even out the pressure between the plastic surface and the screw, tightening metal vs plastic is always a bad thing especially if the surface isn't 100% flat, putting a rubber washer in-between would help dramatically to even out the pressure on the headphone cup and should greatly reduce the stress around the corner area and thus see much less cracking issues, now customers have to make sure the screws aren't too tightly secured or it will very easily break.

Hasn't Val been pretty clear, many times, that he has considered (and will continue to consider/test) materials like Velour...but that he won't implement them until 1) they can be utilized in a way that won't demolish sound quality, and 2) it makes financial sense to bring them to market?

My guess -- given his understandable aversion to releasing something that alters the sound in a way he doesn't approve -- is that Val would probably end up needing to design an entirely new headphone around Velour pads, since the differences between pleather and Velour are sonically pretty dramatic. (Just look at the "Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?" thread for evidence of how difficult the search for tonally acceptable Velour pads can be for a headphone not designed for them.)
