I just realized all but two of the custom plate searches were from today lol. but still searching custom shields yields 3 pages of results. searching just shields yields 8 pages. 

this is the first result when i searched just shields http://www.head-fi.org/t/592389/v-moda-m-100-discussion-feedback-reviews-pics-etc/915#post_8290742 the following post gives the answer to this (albeit on the following page) by stating the m-80 and m100 shields are not interchangeable however the lp and m-100 are the same size.

Not the case here, however. Val has taken seriously the input he hears on these pages. He took time to tell us that no, the M-100 won't sound like crap without an amp--in fact it will blow you away; also, that V-MODA doesn't do giant teletubby ear cushions because we still want you to look cool and on average the existing LP/LP2 cushions do satisfy most people, so it would be prohibitively expensive to tool a new design for your big ol' ears; the 3 V-ports on the side of the cups are more about VINI VIDI VICI aesthetics and less about porting (in other words, their not super functional, mostly about looks) and oh, about the bass--get an LP2, because the M-100 will have plenty of bass but will not sacrifice audiophile quality in favor of what the masses believe is good sound. 
On top of all that, V-MODA's been willing to push back production (i.e., being able to sell the cans) in favor of getting it right the first time. Gee, thanks! Mil-spec? Yes, but not till we're sure the tooling has worked out. Sound quality? Yes, but it was a hard choice between 40mm and 50mm drivers, among other things. A better mic? You got it--in fact, here's a super mic! And cool colors? Psssha! For sure.
So, yeah. I'd love a set of these cans. 


Just wanted to bring this well said bit of reasoning/seasoning back to the current part of the thread for new joiners to the Convo ^___^

let's cross(fade) fingers that reliability tests pass, even if we have one hiccup I think it will be minor since we have done many of the tests already on the individual components.   In the past, some reliability problems delay the product many months and require retooling.  This is why LP took nearly 5 years and M-80 6 years.  Since durability is so important, headphones developed like fashion is actually a VERY VERY VERY bad concept I learned many years ago.  Headphones should be developed more like cars or even  spaceships, they require lots of track tests! They need time, and companies developing products quickly is what is killing the trust in the industry.  I view the DJ core of V-MODA as our "formula 1" testing that accelerates wear and tear in real-life environments of people who depend on headphones for a profession.  Then, over time, we bring that technology to the consumers and pros. 

For instance, Erick and I found an issue on M-100 a few months ago with the cable mechanism/plug combo after heavy DJing for a few weeks, it would spin around and was harder to take out.  Yet oddly it passed in our normal lab tests.  We still cannot figure out a good solution for stolen headphones, RFID + CUSTOMS?!

Oh, and yes I know this is old, but since you're already comparing to Formula 1 and sports cars, why not just use a VIN? Lol, but seriously, some ID number that says which model out of a production run that we can register with V-MODA would be cool. It increases pride in ownership ("My M-100 was the 343rd of the first 500 produced!") and perhaps a way to look up previous owners or something. Maybe keeping a database is more cost than it's worth... And perhaps it's too late in production to have an ID# stamped on the headphone (under the shield maybe?), but it would be cool to know your place as a part of something.

Since the issue of custom shields came up... I'm considering customizing my LP2's (and if I get the M100's, moving the stuff over)... I'm planning to order the red cables and wondering if the crimson or the red shields will match the red cable better (since there is no pic for the red cable, and guessing it is the same cable as came with the True Blood V-80... which is actually black/red).

Is it okay if I link to this post when the question about whether or not the shields are compatible gets asked again next week, the following week, and every week leading to the actual release and then several more weeks there on after?

 

I thought the point of a forum -- besides playing host to discussions among an esoteric group about specific topics -- was a place where previously discussed information was stored and documented to be referenced at a later time. Besides tools such as "Search this Thread," which is provided by Head-FI, a simple Google search will oftentimes link to the proper discussion here and even to similar discussions happening elsewhere. Val Kolton himself is usually the one who provides us the answers to these questions and searching through his various replies throughout several V-MODA threads will provide more insight into his products than any of the speculation we Head-Fiers can conjure up.

 

I'm not doing any of this to be condescending, although I see exactly why some would take it that way. In this culture of "me" and "now," instant gratification seems to be the only way people can navigate the world. I am glad to help and lend any advice when I feel the question was asked in earnest and when I can a provide an answer or at least an educated opinion. From my experiences as a private tutor, when someone does not do their homework and shows up the next day utterly lost to what I'm talking about, it's counter-productive and causes digression when newer, more insightful topics can be further explored. I guess some of us prefer to get through life using Cliff's Notes.

I spent weeks perusing the Head-Fi forums before becoming a member. I spent an obscene(at least it seemed like it at the time) amount of money on a pair of headphones I had never physically seen from a company I had never heard of. It wasn't until after I received my headphones that I joined up to inquire about specific experiences other users have had with them and whether or not amping them would significantly change anything. I'm not saying I'm special. In fact, I think many Head-Fiers had a similar journey in joining this community. I found the experience enlightening and rewarding. I guess some people just prefer to show up unprepared and ask questions. Sorry you missed out on the experience.

If you use the mic on the cable, hold off for a bit and get the new cable with the Super Mic. Val says they're coming soon and he may even give us a discount.

Ok, maybe I'm being overly extravagant, but I just bought a pair of Crossfade LP. Yeah, not the revised model. It's super cheap comparatively for right now while I wait for job funds to kick in, I get a feel for the earpad size, extra shields, and I feel they will probably compliment my AD700s for now. I'll probably end up selling or gifting them later for the M-100 upgrade.
Managed to hold off the buying bug for two years... Nothing wrong with the old but curious about the new!

Are the M-100 going to be available in white?  That color is my personal favorite on the LPs and I think would sell more in white then all black.

I think they're still working out what colours it'll be available in at first, but I believe white might be one of the launch colours?  I think the first colour will most likely be the black shadow one though...we'll just have to wait and see I guess, nothing is set in stone yet.

All the colors were posted earlier in the thread, I forget what page though.
