Lol, he got banned for just swearing at people or what? He seems like a nice guy  :)

Also would an amp benefit when gaming, I heard that the can needs good sound stage, which the m100 does provide good amount. Also on amps what kind of amp would work with it? I heard the astro mixamp is good, but I heard it is discouraged among audiophiles?
I use optical out of the ps3 to toslink adapter into the fiio e17 also sometimes i dock it into the e9k in opt mode. quite nice! i really love the m100s ability to handle complex and multiple chaotic sounds.

Thats a cool setup! Yeah Val did a great job with this can! The reason why I questioned the m100's ability was I saw the review from Headfonia saying they are not for first person shooters. http://www.headfonia.com/style-and-power-vmoda-m-100/3/

His claim that the SRH940 sounding nearly identical to the HD800 got into a pretty big argument and he started to personally attack members. He used to actively post on Innerfidelity until similar things happened, and he still posts on Headfonia I believe.....but this is not the thread to discuss such things. >_<

But yes, his YouTube videos are pretty straight-forward and informative.

ya there good but not great for gaming! i use the techpro hpt990s for gaming/movies at home(since they are open-back)/ m100 when im using my comp for gaming when i fly which is pretty frequently. so if you are just using the m100s for just gaming you might be wanting a little more... i am in no way bashing any of the vmoda products(m100) as they are my favorite set of cans, as i listen to mostly bass oriented electronic music.

lol... I mean, the M100s were not specifically designed for 1st person shooters, but I would imagine they are enough for most causal gamers. To get the best performance out of them, I think you need to get something along the lines of a astro mixamp type setup or another amp that gives you virtual surround sound if you are really serious. Also, a gaming amp will allow you to EQ to boost footsteps. While the M100 bass boost makes everything sound "funner", that would muddle up important positional sound cues like footsteps, grenade pin drops & bounce sounds, and bullet zings. If you are really hardcore about gaming & love your M100, I think you can EQ to dial down the lower frequencies of explosions and boost whatever frequencies footsteps are so you can better map out where everything is just with sound.

Obviously, there are many alternative headphones out there with inherently better sound stage & less bass-emphasis that I think those options will be more adept at first person shooters. With first person shooters, you want positional accuracy above everything else. For closed headphones, the best sound stage I've heard was in the AKG K550 & it was very bass light compared to the other closed headphones I tried, so IMO the AKG K550 would be better at 1st person shooters from its sound signature.

However, the very best option would be what most people recommend: a pair of open headphones with great sound stage + virtual surround sound amp.

Yea I occasionally game since I am a student, and I do not want to spend extra money on a gaming headset. Plus I mostly listen to music so the m100 is great for me :D. Is it me or comparing the m100 to other celebrity cans, the m100 has a more true bass, meaning not artificial booming bass. I went the other day to hear my friends (plastic beats) headphones I noticed that the m100 had more of a heart thumping pure bass, I do not know why people said that these compared to celebrity can have no bass. The bass in the m100 is so smooth and sweet, there are many parts to it. Versus the boom bass the beats have. I consider the m100 to have better bass.

I want to get the akg q701 and a surround sound amp, but I really don't have the cash right now. Plus my dad think I'm crazy owning more than 3 pairs of headphones, I keep on telling him that headphones have different sound signatures but he still thinks Im crazy. I guess he is a "radiohead" lol

lol... if you ask your friends to demo your M100, you might be disappointed with their responses. sure, the M100 has tight bass, but not everyone is looking for accurate bass. there are a lot of headphones that out bass the M100, but of course the rest of the sound frequencies may be recessed and those headphones will sound darker. on the other hand, there are many headphones that "out audiophile" the M100s by presenting a flatter, cleaner, more neutral "as the artist intended" sound but may not be as fun for people like you craving bass. A lot of my friends ended up preferring their own headphones over the M100, so taste is pretty subjective.

I guess I would personally agree that the M100 has the best bass that I have tried so far in the $300ish range, but not everyone agrees with that. For example, just compare the V-Moda LP2 vs M100. different types of sound signatures for different people, but not necessary one-size-fits-all best.

as long as you are personally satisfied with the sound, who cares what other people think.

I know this is a V-Moda M100 thread, but just to note: Lime Green AKG Q701 ($226.42) + Creative Blaster Recon3D ($89.87) = ~$317 vs V-Moda M100 = $300-$310.
