V-MODA M-100: Discussion/Feedback, Reviews, Pics, etc. - Page 755

hi, im interested in the m100

however i can't try them out as they are not available in my country yet

so i need some inputs here

my source:

i have few audio source , it's not high end just normal audio source, i still don't know which one will give me the greatest and cleanest output.

-Apple Macbook Pro

-Apple iPad 3rd Gen

-Apple iPhone 4s

-Apple iPod Nano 6th Gen

-HTC EVO 4G LTE (it's the same as HTC one X only for CDMA network) with Beats !!! in other sites this feature will be praised but in this site i know i will be bashed :P

actually i still have my beloved Apple iPod Classic 3rd Gen , but the battery went dead :(

i have an amp Fiio e02 those small one

i only have 2 earphones at the moment,

of course the legendary apple iBuds

and

Audio-Technica ATH-CM7Ti which i really love i bought it long time ago , it's been my only earphones and i really like them

but too bad they already showing some age, and i really want to buy a headphone .

i prefer earphones to the IEM because im those person that can't use IEMs , the cable makes some noiese when it touches my body and i really dont like the way they feel in my ears.

i listened to mostly top 40 songs, 90's pop, sentimental, slows, mellow songs (kenny rogers, kenny loggins, david foster album kind of music),  RnB, Hip Hop, country, and Jazz.

i don't do rock nor classical.

about the Audio-Technica ATH-CM7Ti, i feel the sound is edequate for me,

a liilte bit too bright and a little bit lack of bass punch

well i'm obviously not an audiophile.

but i really want a good quality headphone, that's why i rather asking this question here, than to buy the notorious Beats.

i dont have home proffesional stereo or something i only use Bose to listened around the house because i seldom just sit infront of speaker to listen to it, i prefer it to be headphone than speaker.

but i installed quite a system in my car because i travel a lot in my car.

my car set up is

Alpine Head unit with DVD and touchscreen + PXA time alingment DSP

2 way system

tweeter : DynAudio Esotar that i had since i was young :)

mid baaa : Scan Speak Revelator

Sub woofer : Kicker Solo Baric L7 12"

driven full active with 3 Brax graphic edition Amplifier

well i love the sound in my car.

my installer says that the front speakers and tweeter setting is more of an sound quality setting

while the Sub woofer is more to SPL setting

because i like this kind of set up.

-warm sounding

-not too bright tweeter but still quite open ( i hate super bright and super detail tweeter, and dynaudio esotar is famous to be quite warm sounding dark tweeter)

-quick and punchy bass without too much low end boominess. ( i like my bass to be fast, punchy, but without boominess found on those beats

-and i choose scan speak revelator mid because they are very warm sounding as well and punchy too for a mid bass, they're 7"

so i want to buy a head phone ,

i prefer it to be closed and full sized i have quite a big head, and not all headphones fit me,

yesterday, for instance, i tried the audio technica M50 and they fit me all right, tried the Ultimate ears and shure 840 and they are comfortable too, i tried Beats Detox and the grip my ear too tight resulting in an uncomfortable fit, i tried vmoda M80 and the head phone doesnt have enough length to cover my head, i set it to the longest but still it cant fit my head properly, resulting in poor sealing and sound. so i've decided to buy "over the ear" and not "on ear"

what i'm looking in a headphone:

-about $200 - $300

-Like i said above , i like they to sounded warm mid, not too bright high, punchy and fast bass, without boominess. maybe an headphoen that have dynaudio "colours", i always like the sound signatures of dynoudio.

-comfortable for long usage

-can accomodate my "large head"

-i preffer them to run good without an amp, as i don't like to carry many stuff when i travel, i already have my ipad, iphone and android phone to carry. (but if the amp is small like the Fiio e02, i might not mind it at all )

-looks good (well this is not too important but i don't want too look like a ****** bag when wearing 'em on the road, especially when most of other people wearing their great looking Beats)

so my question are:

-will the M100 fit my large head ? (as i told you i cant even put properly the M80 on my ear because they are not long enough.

-i'm still deciding between the M100 and

-Audio Technica M50

-Focal Spirit One

-Aiaiai TM1

-Ultimate ears UE6000

-Ultimate ears UE9000 (if the bluetooth can really give me a good sound quality, other wise i'll better off with cabled headphones)

-Beyerndynamics DT-770

-AKG 550

which one will fit me better ?
im sorry too asked so much question, but i can't try most of them in the store as they are not widely available in my country, thank you so much.

sorry, double posted

Based upon your musical preferences I'd leave out the TMA-1 as this IMO is only suited to EDM...

Let me repost here something I just discovered, quite interesting:

EDIT: cutting out for easier comparision:

Monster Inspiration:

1000

V-Moda M100:

1000

Interesting.

They also have VERY similar impedance & phase curve and quite similar 30Hz square wave. The biggest difference is the 9~10kHz spike which is also seen in the 300Hz square wave.

And yeah, my carabiner strap is the one flaw to my whole package really. Slight tear and it bugs me out.

I just had my clip strand break on me over the weekend, but mine was complete blow out. I am just lucky i heard it and didn't lose them in the parking lot. Did V-moda replace them?

Hmmm, if you read these forums I would agree with your first sentiment, however there is no other hype, except a few pro reviews, for the most part favourable. Compare that with perhaps the most well known luxury headphone brand and I think you would have to agree the hype is fairly limited and (for the most part) better informed.

The price is partly due to import duty and VAT, in my case almost adding £60 the the cost. For me, they are worth it. They may not be perfect but I prefer their sound to any of the competing models that I have heard which is most of them (MDR-1R being the exception). All down to personal taste I guess.

This is a classic case of the frequency graph only telling part of the story.  To my ears, the M-100 is a vastly superior, enjoyable listening experience compared to the Inspiration.

Firstly I have a tiny head and the headband on the smallest setting (no clicks) fits me...so I dont think you would have trouble with them fitting (it seems they are made for people with large heads lol

Also I did a comparisson with the DT770 Pro 80 here:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/573826/the-basshead-club/3885#post_8984376

The M100 is the better headphone by FAR!

I'll try and find a few examples of a crushed mix tomorrow.

Been listening to some Phaeleh and Poets Of The Fall tonight.

Im really glad someone else thinks Phaeleh is just amazing with these headphones...especially the tracks with Soundmouse like Afterglow and The Cold In You

If anyone has any other artist or songs that sound as good as these then please let me know LOL

i don't do rock nor classical.

I listen to similar music, except for jazz and the M-100 is great for all of those

a liilte bit too bright and a little bit lack of bass punch

No worries- highs are not bright, nor dark; no one would accuse the M-100 of lacking bass punch

i prefer it to be closed and full sized i have quite a big head, and not all headphones fit me,

yesterday, for instance, i tried the audio technica M50 and they fit me all right, tried the Ultimate ears and shure 840 and they are comfortable too, i tried Beats Detox and the grip my ear too tight resulting in an uncomfortable fit, i tried vmoda M80 and the head phone doesnt have enough length to cover my head, i set it to the longest but still it cant fit my head properly, resulting in poor sealing and sound. so i've decided to buy "over the ear" and not "on ear"

M-100 will fit large heads, but earcups are on the smaller side.  There were comfort issues when I first purchased a few months ago, now I forget they are on my head and my ears do fit snugly inside the cups, so I consider the M-100 a true circumaural.

what i'm looking in a headphone:

-about $200 - $300

check

-Like i said above , i like they to sounded warm mid, not too bright high, punchy and fast bass, without boominess.

Bass is powerful and tight and is certainly above neutral, but I don't find it intrusive.

-comfortable for long usage

In time, yes.

-can accomodate my "large head"

I consider my head to be slightly larger than average and no issues.

-i preffer them to run good without an amp, as i don't like to carry many stuff when i travel, i already have my ipad, iphone and android phone to carry. (but if the amp is small like the Fiio e02, i might not mind it at all )

An amp is not required, but improves the sound.  I use IFuzen, E11, ZO2, and currently Vamp.  M-100 can really shine with a good amp and has the "chops" to change in character based on amping.  For example, through my Vamp, I have the audiophile M-100 for soft rock and vocals.  Through my E11 double amped with my ZO2, I have a serious basshead can.

-looks good (well this is not too important but i don't want too look like a ****** bag when wearing 'em on the road, especially when most of other people wearing their great looking Beats)

check- I have white with midnight blue shields

so my question are:

-will the M100 fit my large head ? (as i told you i cant even put properly the M80 on my ear because they are not long enough.

-i'm still deciding between the M100 and

-Audio Technica M50

-Focal Spirit One

-Aiaiai TM1

-Ultimate ears UE6000

-Ultimate ears UE9000 (if the bluetooth can really give me a good sound quality, other wise i'll better off with cabled headphones)

-Beyerndynamics DT-770

-AKG 550

I have auditioned all of the above except the Focal Spirit One and easily prefer M-100 to all listed

which one will fit me better ?

The UE's are the most comfortable of the bunch.  M-100 is somewhere in the middle regarding comfort.
im sorry too asked so much question, but i can't try most of them in the store as they are not widely available in my country, thank you so much.

Great questions, always good to use due diligence before a major purchase, best of luck with your decision.

hi thx for the reply

now i'm naroowing down my option to

Vmoda M100

UE6000

AKG 550

and new one

Beyern Dynamics Custom one

sigh....

can't even decide, yet another models comes up

but anyway from all of them i really like the look of the UE6000 and the V-Moda M100

still looking for local stores taht carry them so that i can audition them , but from what i gather they haven't carry it yet

only the M80 .

size wise, i've tried the audio technica M50

how the UE 6000 and M-100 compared to the M50 in term of size and comfort ?

Just so you know, try the K550 first, they're infamous for not creating a seal... at all. They sound nice but without a seal they're kinda useless.

also, M-50 is supra aural where M-100 are circum aural. Comfort is night and day for me. Also the coiled cable on the M50 kinda pulls, unless you get the straight cable that's 2m long lol.

When I tried the Inspiration with my portable rig, I thought they sounded pretty good given the environment (a la mobile listening). My memory fails to make a comparison with the M-100 on the other hand.

I find the M50 to be more comfortable than the stock M-100 pads, but your mileage may vary.

And yes, you should really try out the K550 before you buy it. I tried it at a local Head-Fi meet and could not get a seal on my head what-so-ever. It sounded good when I pushed the earcups into my head though.

Also, Custom One Pro vs M-100, the M-100 was pretty much better in every way possible. I would say the COP is a good experental headphone but it feels lacking in some areas. I would actually recommend a Monster DNA instead of the COP even though it has less bass.

Yeah I love those tracks with Soundmouse in. So much clarity/space and snap.

I'd love to also know more bands like that.

You must have huge ears to consider the M-50's supra-aural blink.gif

Perhaps it's my spacers, but even the M-100 is a little small for me, but atleast it goes all around my ear
