Whats the deal with these amps - Page 6

It is a testament to the participants thus far. How is your post helping?

Crazy Carl, where do you live? I'd like to offer a challenge. You claim amps make no difference etc, so how about we do a complete blind test of say, my ALO Continental vs my RSA SR-71A straight from the iPhone. Using my T1's, if I can guess which is which a multiple of times completely blindfolded, you give £500 to a charity of my choice then and there (card payment via the charity site or hotline), and if I cannot, same applies but for me instead. Deal?

whatever his intentions where, we still tried to give him our opinions and advice on what we know. now it's up to him to decide. and agree with him... woo amps do look good!!! ;-p

HEy I am just trying to discuss quit accusing me of stuff and don'tworry about it if you disagree.

I am the only one who has shown any hard evidence with my blind test so you can imagine how I feel about your claims.

Ah, another endless debate if all amp sounds the same and all cabling sounds the same. The people with scientific mind will claim that but they forget that audio is not about the "amp". It's about the synergy of the whole change from source to pre-amp, power amp and speakers.

Not all amps are designed the same. Some can handle down to 2ohm load some cannot. Some have high damping factor than other. Some have higher noise distortion ratio than other.

Beside that, we have tube amps, Class A, class A/B, Class D.... Give me a Rotel amp or the Carver amp to driver the Apogee speakers then give me the Pass amp or Krell amp to drive the same Apogee speakers to see which amp can drive the Apogee to their best potential where one not only listen to the music but one can "see" the music.

Well, I am out of here since , this will lead to some unfriendly back and forth. I just simply cannot resist to throw in my two cents.

Crazy Carl, do you think all Italian food is the same?

Everyone here including the entire Head-Fi community is at different places in the learning curve. Many "truths" that people believe will change at some point in time. We are hear to learn and everyone is respected for their opinions. I used to believe that cables only made a small difference. When it's the right time and if we have an open mind our opinions will change. Nothing really is written in stone around here.

The single greatest motivator of a man is the cause. More than money, more than most motivators you would think. If someone thinks that amps are all the same that is their cause worth fighting for.

Well... you HAVE NOT shown any evidence!

Do you have a video with a couple of people blindfolding you, connecting different amps and headphones and asking you to get it right?

Just saying what you did is not evidence, is just an experience... especially if you did it by yourself (mentally you will be conditioned to answer differently which is why you need more people doing the changes for you!)

But if you have videos and stuff then that's evidence and you should post it...

And BTW, just do an internet search... there's a bunch of people that have done blind testing with videos, measurements, REAL evidence... (the links I saw are not from head-fi though but other forum...)

Anyway, good luck with any new buy you have planned!

If a person can hear the difference among different amps or cabling. Good for them. More power to them. It's their money, they can buy whatever they like.

If a person cannot hear the difference be it amps or cabling,  good for them and good for their wallet.

Let put this type of confrontation and unproductive thread to an end. There is nothing to be learn, there is nothing new here. The subject was over couple decade old and there has not one correct answer.

Audio is a personal and intimate hobby. We are here to learn from one and another not to challenge one another.

Actually I have to thank you for breaking down one of my prejudices: "Expensive amps always sound awesome!"

Some of my past experience supports this and some of my past experience DOES NOT support this.

Frankly I had ignored some evidence that did not support my prejudice and put too much faith in evidence that supported my prejudice.

It took me a while to get over the fact that I did not like the sound I got out of my old tube power amps into my new loudspeakers.  Which is actually another one of my prejudices: "Tubes sound awesome!"

Eventually I sold my tube power amps and got a SS power amp which was far better suited to my new loudspeakers (the new speakers are rather inefficient and have a very low impedance at high frequencies).
