If I'm listening to the V2's on my ipod, how necessary is an external amp? I'm not dropping $200 to spend another $60-$70 on an amp.

Bought these on whim, for your basic train ride to work I don't mind. But its far from being the best I have own.

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

This quick review is done after a few hours of listening. I bought them from B&H for the decent sum of 150$. If you've done your research you'll find out that Ultrasone HPs are known for their...

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

They don't require an amp, they are a standard 32 Ohms, I use them on various Sansa Clips and Minidisc players with no problems. Full details here.
I think I'm gonna pick those up. Can't wait to see the look on my friends' faces when I say "my headphones play bass frequencies a quarter the amount the beats can handle." I also love the minimalist design.

Just because it has a low resistance doesn't mean it won't benefit from an amp.
If that was the case people would be using the LCD-2's unamped, and it's common knowledge they're very power hungry cans.
I wasn't really impressed by the V-Modas. Still too much focus on fashion. If the M50's aren't bassy enough for you, go for the PRO700MK2's. Keep in mind, the M50's are professional headphones used in studios, and they're built for that. Some of the way it is built, and aesthetics, may not be what you like because of this.
After heavily auditioning the M50's I went with the PRO700MK2's for my bass cans and I am beyond impressed.

Ultrasone 580's, 780's or ATH-M50's.
Have not listened to the V Moda's, but despite the fact that they're mentioned often (hype, perhaps?),
generally the reviews I've read have not been too positive.
Not negative - but not glowing, either.
So I'm cautious about buying a pair.
