NFB-12 doesn't work with Xbox 360 DVDs? Anyone know what would cause this?

So I decided to watch a DVD today in my room, and the only DVD player I have is my xbox. Its hooked up to my NFB-12 via an optical toslink cable which has worked fine for months playing games or streaming music / movies. But as soon as the DVD is loaded up and hits the menu the audio changes to loud static clicking and you cant even make anything out (same story with the 4-5 other dvds I tried). Spent a bit of time trying to figure it out and even phoned Microsoft to see if they knew what the problem was, they couldn't figure it out either. So I tried hooking it up to my Yamaha receiver with the same cable and it works fine.

Any ideas?

What it is is that the digital signal is in a format other than stereo. DAC's can only decode 2 channels. They can no process a Dolby Digital signal or DTS signal, but if it's PCM stereo it will work fine.

From the Xb0x360 settings, disable Dolby Digital and the secondary option with WMA. This should just convert/downmix the DD signal a stereo signal, though I am not completely sure.

In the Xbox audio settings I have it set to Digital Stereo, but I was thinking the same thing that it was kicking it back to DTS or whatever when a DVD starts, guess there isn't really anything I can do about it eh?

It needs to be a PCM signal- I used my 12 for TV and movies some and this was the case for me.

What do you mean by PCM signal?

A signal that is not Dolby Digital or other surround signal- a signal that another device decodes like a HT receiver or the NFB12 in your case. Check your manual to see if this is possible to change the output to PCM. Research what this is further on your own.
