The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are
true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God, 
to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, 
and to fulfill those responsibilities.

And it takes two, regardless what angle you look at it, to make life.  I think the pondering question rewrites itself for those with or wants children.  If and when that happens, the selfish human nature subsides a bit when sharing and experiencing the process of life.  The next best thing is experiencing it with family and friends that are dear.  Life is a journey not meant to be taken alone.

 

Those that try too damn hard to make whatever mark that makes them perceived as "immortalized", but from a selfish motive will only turn the simple question into a hellish riddle when it boils down to what's already mentioned in this thread: cause and effect, or simply "opposites" - nothing more.

Life is one particular manifestation of multiversal energy transferal that expands, contracts and explodes into an infinite array of cycles.

 

One particular manifestation of life is this here b-grade 'poet' who bleats abstract facts that wax and wane on the window pane between here, and some great vast nowhere...

Life has no meaning, its an accident with absolutely no significance in the whole universe. Even if it had a meaning it would not be meant to discover. Another explanation is that the meaning of life is to figure out the meaning of life.
