And it takes two, regardless what angle you look at it, to make life. I think the pondering question rewrites itself for those with or wants children. If and when that happens, the selfish human nature subsides a bit when sharing and experiencing the process of life. The next best thing is experiencing it with family and friends that are dear. Life is a journey not meant to be taken alone.
Those that try too damn hard to make whatever mark that makes them perceived as "immortalized", but from a selfish motive will only turn the simple question into a hellish riddle when it boils down to what's already mentioned in this thread: cause and effect, or simply "opposites" - nothing more.
