Well if your reading this I am full of thanks. If this is the right thread for these questions then please answer. I listen to pink floyd the police led zepplin the who etc. I have been looking at headphones for a while and like the akg q701s however i really have no clue about them. My questions are will they fit my style of listening, what is are appropriate amps and will they be ok for the occasional plane ride. As for budget sub 350 and i am open to diffrent suggestions for headphones. NO IN EAR. i hope you guys hate them as much as i do.

hello?

if you don't care about isolation but want to get the most out of your style of music (rock, classic rock, psychedelic, etc) definitely get grado.

they are open headphones though, so not good for plane rides. but they will sound amazing and you will love them. grados are considered some if not the best for rock music due to their really nice sound signature with a really forward midrange.

grado sr80s are cheap and you can also try the more expensive sr225 or sr325is.

anything under 125 should be able to run off an ipod. the sr225 might need an amp, and the sr325 definitely needs one to sound its best.

as for amps, any cheap portable amp shall suffice since grados are low impedance and easy to drive.

I'd suggest Grado too. The SR125i don't really need an amp, they're great with almost anything driving them. I'd probably recommend them over any of their lesser phones, as they have a more even tone, unless you're the braver sort and don't mind modding. Great cans for $150.

Is there anything more comfortable than grado's good for my listening style. And i do care about sound leaking in

Well, you mentioned rock, and for the price there's nothing better for rock. Also check out the AH-D2000s, they're less "in your face", don't really need an amp either, but they will excel with one, and they have mids and bass to die for. Not bass as in, *THUMP THUMP THUMP*, but nice even and fluid that you can feel. Also, they have much less leakage and are extremely comfortable (to me). Amazing cans, and you can get them at a big discount right now.

I have their big brother, the D7000, and for Floyd and the like, they'll melt your spine.

Will I notice the difference in sound quality since those are 3.5 mm and should I get a DAC. I really want to get a bang for my buck so when I say 350 I wanna spend it all lol
