Thread Starter

In the process of configuring my new workstation PC I decided this would be a perfect time to map out the new audio system.

The Goal: Have the best possible playback of lossless files to my speakers and headphones while I sit at my workstation remote controlled via Droid cellphone. (I will only be playing exclusively digital, I have ripped all my CD's)

I am going to order my Computer ASAP, but I dont want to buy the first part of my workstation/Audio system until I know what the last will be. This is what my PC will look like.

Chassis: Silverstone FT02
Processor: Intel Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme X79
System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Dominator GT with DHX (4x4)
Power Supply: ???
Hard Drive 1: Intel 510 SSD
Hard Drive 2: 1TB HDD caviar black
Optical Drive: Blu-Ray Player/DVD Writer
Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 3GB
Sound Card: ???
Windows OS: Windows 7

Headphones: Will be orthodynamic, either Audeze LCD-2's or Modded T50rp's (would be nice to have Balanced XLR connection)
Speakers: Will be Magnepans

The First big Question is the Connection since it may involve a sound card. On My Mobo There is Usb 2, 3 and S/PDIF. Or I could do something like the Lynx aes16e or the SoTM USB (Not sure how PCIe>AES/EBU compares to USB>AES/EBU)

Originally I was thinking playing files off my internal 1tb Caviar Black HDD through Foobar2000 with a wasapi output controlled via droid remote would be more then efficient, but Knowledgeable people on other forums have suggested things like the Auraliti, Squeezboxand even using a whole separate computer. How does this really Compare?

Once I have this figured out the Next Question for me is what DAC will be used with my Headphones / Speakers/ subwoofer

Cheers!
