Best closed headphones I had heard - very flat response, almost no midrange distortion, very easy to drive (good for portable), good soundstage (definately better than K240), good isolation, but...

Overall excellent buds, very good sound quality, especially for their price, the medium set of tips fits exactly in my ears and provides a near perfect seal. Bass is very detailed, but not...

I'll keep this very short. They are very smooth sounding. Treble toned down so not so good for rock but have a magic about them that makes them better than mark 2. I use them with a '89/'90...

Bought these on whim, for your basic train ride to work I don't mind. But its far from being the best I have own.

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

Which one do you think you will prefer the sound of?
Now that you have answered build it.
Personal opinion:
You would have to be kind of crazy to use a fairly high power power op-amp as a preamp. Maybe its just me, but "preamp B22" is like saying that you are going to give your 95 year old grandma a ride down to the senior center to play bridge on a ducati 996. Its just something you don't do. Sometimes the best way is a nice cushy smooth ride. Not necessarily underpowered but with a certain measure of character. A Rolls-Royce comes to mind for similar ability to turn heads to the ducati but a better ride for grams.

I do not know, so I'd love to know what the differences between them.
The main use is headphone amplifier, secondary use would be to be pre-amp.
AMB's site indicated that one of the product use is as pre-amp.

Just depend on your sound listening taste and the budget will spend:
Beta22 is pure solid state=fast&clean details&great on bass too, the kits will spend $500 easily & mostly more than that
EHHA is Hybrid(tube on front&mosfet on back)= sweet mids(great for vocals, violin) but lacks of bass & sparkling top, the kits will spend $300 easily & likely more than that too

Respectfully, the EHHA has absolutely no lack of bass. Not sure what a "sparkling top" implies or if it is a desirable characteristic.
Cannot comment on a B22. Have yet to hear one.
Suggest you seek out a meet or another member or two who have those products local to you so that you make your own informed decision.
Otherwise, take out the gold teeth and see how they roll....

I would agree with JD regards the EHHA , it does not lack in bass nor top end detail. I do not own a B22 but the sound is easily comparable with the EHHA. The original EHHA does have the ability to adjust both open and closed loop feedback, this allows for some "tweaking" of the final sound.
Now having said all that, nikongod makes an excellent point, both of these amps are capable of about 20W output into an 8ohm load.( if built with capabilities to do so - correct power supply choice , heatsinking etc ) In other words, they are akin to low powered speaker amps or high powered headphone amps themselves, you certainly don't want to use them as preamplifiers.

The RevA version allows this as well. Although, socketing those resistors makes it a whole lot easier.
