The Adidas originals are the same as the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II. From a technical stand ponint, there is also the HD 25-13 II which is a 600 ohm variant and the HD 25-SP II which has a higher SPL rating and is 60 ohms as opposed to the 85 ohms of the HD 25-1 II.
The only difference between the Adidas and the regular HD 25-1 II is purely cosmetic.
Why not just get a stock HD25-1 II and a blue velour set from ebay? This way you get the same look for less than the premium.
Honestly, I looked into doing that, but it's not that much of a premium to just buy the Adidas version. If you don't like the blue, though...that's a cool way to go
I guess I just don't like the idea of being an Adidas billboard. :)
The HD 25 Mk.II is identical to the HD 25 Mk.I there was no change in the headphones at all when the Mk.II was released.
The change was in the length of the cable (the HD 25-1 had a 1.2m cable and the HD 25-1 II has a 1.5m cable) and the fact that the Mk.II had a screw-on ¼" adaptor while the Mk.I had a push-on one.
The Adidas version does have the velour earpads - the normal version has leatherette earpads and the optional velour ones are in the box.
The velour earpads are about 3dB worse, Sennheiser Germany told me.
I use the velour earpads on my German made 22-year old Mk.I version.
