Best closed headphones under $250.00

I listen to hip-hop, rap, techno, club, dubstep, pop, and top chart songs.

I don't want to have to carry an amp with me so they have to run on Android sources well.

What do you guys have in mind?

Would like them to be portable but they don't need to be small, can be 'Beats By Dre Studio' size.

Ultrasone is a good deal if you can live with the S-Logic technology. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work properly for everybody. I find the soundstage created by S-Logic to be very artificial for example...

Below 250$, the Shure SRH840 is a great choice. It has a relatively flat frequency response but it also has nicely emphasized bass, which is nice for the genres you listen to. It is uncomfortable to wear for some though.

Another option is Beyerdynamic DT770. It has big bass and is very comfortable but not very portable. It also has a recessed midrange, however, this might not be a big issue for your genres.

Xone XD-53 is another great option for your preferred genres. It is also the most portable amongst these cans.

The Audio Technica ATH-M50 that has already been mentioned here is also a great option.

Save a few dollars.

KRK KNS 8400

The Shure SRH-840 is a great deal for under $200.  It's supposed to be a monitor but it is in fact quite a fun sounding set of cans, with prudent EQing, and very driveable.  If you look around you can prolly get it for $150.

The M50, KRK's and are the same price for me, which do I go for?

Don't want to risk the headphones not being comfortable so Shures are out.

Based on your listening preferences and a desire for un-amped portability, I think the AIAIAI TMA-1s would be well worth a look.

I say for portable use and your genres,

Sennheiser HD25-1 ii

V-Moda M-80

AiAiAi TMA-1

Ultrasone HFI-580

IMHO the KRK beats the M50 just slightly in terms of sound quality because it is a tad more neutral and clear. The M50 is relatively muddy (but still clear compared to most consumer headphones). The M50 seems like it will be more durable, the KRK is built from very cheap-feeling plastic. The KRK is also marginally more comfortable IMO, since its memory-foam is quite nice.

The truth is that both these cans are extremely good though and you can't really go wrong with either. It would be best if you auditioned them both and chose the one that suits you best.
