iBasso DX100: HiRez sources, Reviews & Impressions, Apps, IMGs & VIDEO pg 1. . . - Page 50

Thanks for making it clearer so I take it that this DX100 has about the same Mwattage as my Cowon D2 so then I ask myself why will I want to spend over $700 dollars for something with no more power then I already have?I should just get a tiny portable amp for 1/3 the price.

+8.5dB = 5.0V rms (83mW/300ohm)

125mW = 0.125 Watt

It means that DX100 produces:
0,0625 Amps @ 2 Volts into 32 Ohm load with 0dB gain                 I=U/R
0,0875 Amps @ 2.8 Volts into 32 Ohm load with +3dB gain
0,0166 Amps @ 5 Volts into 300 Ohm load with +8.5dB gain

P.S. maybe DX100 can produce a little bit more power but sure thing the THD and IMD will creep over scary 1% and clipping may occur. And anyway look at charts for popular headphones at head-fi:

Volts RMS required to reach 90dB SPL: 0.225 Vrms
Impedance @ 1kHz: 58 Ohms
Power Needed for 90d BSPL 0.87 mW

Volts RMS required to reach 90dB SPL: 0.242 Vrms
Impedance @ 1kHz: 361 Ohms
Power Needed for 90d BSPL 0.16 mW

And even the notoriously hard to drive
Volts RMS required to reach 90dB SPL: 1.018 Vrms
Impedance @ 1kHz: 53 Ohms
Power Needed for 90d BSPL 19.69 mW

With all of these HPs DX100 will give 90dB SPL without a sweat and even 100dB or more. I just can't understand why people need more. FYI to listen to music at 90dB for more than 15 minutes is hazardous and can lead to hearing damage.

The specs for the D2 on Cowon's website say it does 37 mW/16 ohms, whereas the DX100 does 125-245 mW/32 ohms. Not really the same at all. Besides, not everything is merely about power.

37 per side which = 74, yes cowons EQ works well without coloring when the bass and/or highs are increased and you get over 50 hrs of battery life.

Rather have the power, have a good sq, able to add or lower bass, meds and highs all in one then walk with 2 devices

But what are you going to drive with all that power while walking around? Maybe you will be better off getting HM801 + balanced module. It has the power, installing RockBox will let you play with EQ and definitely good SQ. Just more expensive than DX100 retail price and about same battery life.

Order up.

"
iBasso DX100 Pre-order
24Bit/192KHz Reference Digital Audio Player

Price & Payment:
The Pre-order price of the DX100 is 765USD. It is lower than our final retail price 829USD. We are going to charge 200USD as deposite first. When we are ready to ship the DX100, we will send out a Paypal invoice to collect the rest of the payment.

Prodution & Shipping Schedules:
The lead time for the 6-layer PCB is 18days. The SMT, soldering, test, assemble etc. takes about 20~25days. Therefore, the estimated shipping date is around Mar 10th~15th. We will produce 350pcs DX100 this time. 250pcs are for international pre-order and dealer orders, 100pcs are for our domestic sale. It should be enough to sort out the demand. We cant produce and ship all DX100 at the same time. So, first come, first served.

Firmware & New Functions:
We will release a new firmware after 1~2 days, which fixed most of the bugs reported. Regarding to the gapless function, honestly, it doesnt work well when we are releasing this information. We will try our best to solve the problems, but we are not sure if we can finish this function. If you cant live without the gapless function, I would suggest you dont place the pre-order.

I have almost of all of one 32gb micro card filled now and about 3/5ths of the internal drive. When I first load many new albums the DX100 has to load them but after that it boots up to the internal and micro SD card pretty fast. I get a kick out of listening to Cat Stevens on Tea for the Tillerman in 24/192. I also got Isaac Hayes on the classic Hot Buttered Soul and both really show the advantage of high resolution records and playback. I look forward to more to come.

Hi Jamato, I assume the microSD card is only a class 4 card? And how long did it take for DX100 to load all the albums?

That's fast! Now the agonizing wait tongue_smile.gif

Just let a fellow bro here in Singapore try out today. He was using JH13 with Twag/Twcu hybrid cables and commented that the sound stage is very expansive (about same or slightly better than CLAS + ALO RX mkII), less bassy than HM801, slightly warm, very good 3D presence and instrument separation but not as detailed as he expected. He was listening to Inception album at 16/44.1 ALAC and Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 at 24/96 FLAC

Could you confirm my finding and see if this process is running in your background and can you kill it? If anything I wanna make sure this is addressed before I get my unit back if this is the case. Thanks.

On my DX100, Android Keyboard is always an active process, even after forcing a close and rebooting. The likely reason is that under "Settings", the Popup on Keypress is checked, which I didn't want to change. I have disabled most of the other options which apply mostly to typing preferences. After a reboot, the only thing showing usage is the Display. If I begin the player, then later check the battery usage, it shows both Display and Player Idle. It does not show any battery usage by the keyboard process that is running in the background. Android devices in general do a very creditable job of managing running processes.

I don't think that this process running in the background will have a significant effect on battery run time.

One thing that will have a significant effect on the battery run time is "Background data" which is found under the Settings menu: Accounts and sync. Unless using Wi-Fi for accessing Market or other applications requiring your Google account data, it can be left unchecked.

I have no idea what you are talking about. The DX100 has a good amp that is more powerful than the D2. So why does it require two devices in comparison?

Have you tried the DX100's eq? I haven't - but again on what basis are you making a comparison?

I am not saying that you are wrong to stick with the D2. It's smaller and you clearly love it. I am just saying that you are trying to convince everyone including yourself with arguments that don't make a great deal of sense.  ;-)

I am using a Class 4 micro. I have a class 10 in 8gb and it loads faster but for the class 4, well I load maybe 4 or 5 albums and do something else. I would have to time it, which I haven't but it isn't fast. No big deal as once there are there, well I don't have to load them again. ;^) I prefer CF cards for more speed, like with my cameras. Even the Class 10 8 gb in my Leica is slower than my CF cards that I use in the Canons.

I think that one thing that might lead to a perception of a little less detail on the DX100 when compared to some other DAPs is that the DX100 is very even across the frequency range, rather than bringing up the highs, to give more apparent detail. You can always do this with the built in EQ but I find the presentation to be very natural and hyped in no one area of the frequency range.

He meant "than to walk around with two devices (DAP + amp)"
