Tks everybody , ok so this DX100 can drive a HD800 but not perfectly and with an additionnal AMP ( Like a Lisa3 ) It's GReat .
I understand well? :)
Amplification is always up to the individual's ear. I find the DX100 does great with the HE500 and works very well with my LCD-2. The option of using a different amp vs the internal one is a nice change, even if it isn't better but just different, just for a change of pace. In general I find the DX100 dac and amp to suit most of my needs.
I received my HD800 a couple of days ago, and my take of the DX100 and the HD800 is rather more promising. At least I am enjoying this combination more than when the DX100 is driving the LCD2 and HE500.
What I have realized is that the DX100 started off as quite a detailed oriented DAP with a somewhat artificial soundstage that was extremely impressive on first listen but ultimately pretty fatiguing on the long listening sessions. It has now matured, through the updates to a very balanced, coherent sounding DAP and is much more enjoyable. I am now listening much more to the DX100 as a standalone DAP than ever.
Interesting. Preference is everything in this hobby after all. Some prefer the HE500s or LCD2 on the DX100 to the HD800 and vice versa. Goes to show you how good the DX100 is as a stand alone DAP, for even the hardest to drive cans out there...
I am finding I like my DX100 in standby and left plugged in. Seems a little more transparent, which I have also found with some other audio equipment.
