My DX 100 with UM Miracle , both arrived at the same time on Saturday 30.06.2012

Congrats on your UM Miracle+DX100 combo.

As to why I pair the DX100 with the Rx Mk3, it's cos I find that the Rx Mk3's amp is able to improve the treble extensions, and provide a deeper/cleaner bass presentation than the DX100's amp. Don't get me wrong, the DX100's amp itself is very good but the Rx Mk3 is further able to provide that clarity. As to why, I don't know and I'll have to guess. In my speculation, although both have strong powerful amps, I think the Rx Mk3 may be able to deliver that raw power more cleanly than the DX100 and as such a clearer sound.

I don't always use the Rx Mk3 with the DX100. When I'm walking around, I use only the DX100 and keep the Rx Mk3 in my satchel/messenger bag. But when I sitd own somewhere in a cafe, etc. then I use the Rx Mk3 with the DX100.

not really, my friend really want to try a dx100 but he just bought a k3003 and he needs to "unload" some of his stuff first before trying (and buying) a dx100.

haha pretty much. i tried the combo though and its fantastic, it made the k3003 more "open" sounding and it pretty much sounds like a headphone to me. this is using the "reference" filters of the k3003, i don't like the other two, specially the "bass" filters.

Saw a few posts on issues with the track listing order, but couldn't find any resolution.  Most (all?) of my albums seem to be loaded in reverse order - last track is listed as 1, first is shown last, etc.

I'm on 1.1.7 and the file data for the music is correct, but seems consistently backwards - a real frustration for concept / story albums.

Any solutions?

The K3003s sound quite nice with the DX100. But I like the sound better through the Studio V paired with the UHA6 MKII.

Thank you , DX 100 is my best portable DAP now.
It is good with my custom iems JH 16 and UM Miracle .

My Miracle on the right ear also fit not so properly compare to the left ear , but I don not want refitting , because I worry SQ drop and can not fiit well like my friend ones TF 10 remold

I am waiting from Jaben Indonesia , one day can buy Alo RX 3 B , because if I buy directly our custom is very high about 30 % from msrp .

One more question : Alo RX 3 B vs VorzugAmp , what is the different in the sound quality
Between these two amps ?

Please advise , thank you

Ah probably off-topic for this DX100 thread. But actually I never tried the VorzugAmp even though I've taken pictures of it. I highly recommend you PM a member called "shigzeo" as owns both Rx Mk3 & VorzugAmp.

Well, I've got mine now and have given it a couple of hours listening and so far I am UNDERWHELMED !

I have listened to some 16bit B&W Audiophile albums and some albums\tracks that I tend to use for reference and I am sorry to say that I have NOT been wowed. I know its only a few hours old and that things might change as it beds in, but at the moment I cannot understand all the ravings about the DX100.

I have only listened to it with the EQ settings off and admittedly am comparing it to my J3 where I have tweaked the EQ settings ever so slightly.

The biggest issue I currently have is that the highs seem to be rolled off and the mids are not as far forward or detailed as I feel they should be.

For example, I have an acoustic track that I know well and with my J3 you can quite clearly hear the players nails as they scrape against the strings on the up stroke of the guitar  - I cant hear this on the DX100 - I can hear the upstroke but no scraping nails.

Overall so far, it seems that my J3 produces much more detail and clarity.

Maybe things will change as it matures and when I get a chance to try it out with other earphones (testing with JH16) and some 24bit tracks, but currently I am favoring the J3 in overall sound.

Are you guys using yours with the EQ settings on\off?

Any one else notice similar things?

In the advanced player, goto settings (left button) -> D-Filter, set it to sharp roll-off. If you go to settings -> EQ, does it say "open" or "Close" at the bottom left?

I used to have the J3 so I'm sort of puzzled you find the DX100 to sound worse than the J3. The Cowon is a stellar DAP, no doubt about it, but the DX100 beats it. To my ears at least. Which headphones are you using? What happens if you try to replicate the J3's equalizer settings on the DX100?

Hey guys I got a question for ya. Have any of you noticed inconsistencies between WAV files and FLAC files? Where WAV files can sound better than the FLAC? I was curious if this is due to the conversion process of FLAC back into WAV and there being a conflict while music is playing back at the same time (as opposed to having the file fully expanded back to WAV first then stored in cache).

Sorensiim,

I've changed ther D-filter and it sounds better.

The EQ is showing OPEN, which I assume means its turned OFF as the presets are not available until I change it to CLOSE.

I guess I was just expecting an obvious WOW!!! when I fired up the DX100 and I haven't had it yet. The impressions from other people seem to imply its like night and day differences to their usual DAPs. Maybe as it burns in, the sound will become more special?

I'm going to use it as my main DAP for a while and then swap back the J3 and see how I feel when I hear the J3 again for the first time in ages.

BTW I am using JH13 and the gain is set to Mid

Even though .flac is "lossless" it is still compressed to some greater or lesser degree. Simply reconverting it back to .wav will only convert the already compressed file back to .wav with the .flac compression artifacts still in present.

I find that files ripped directly to .wav always sound better than files ripped to .flac. I notice most differences to be in the stability of the soundstage and imaging accuracy, with the .wav files consistently sounding more precise. It is my guess that compression has more effect on these audio nuances that it has on tonal accuracy. To my ears, .wav files ripped directly from my CD's sound better than the HiRez files that I have purchased online.

Unfortunately, none of the HiRez offerings seem to be available as .wav and must be ripped directly from CD's.

I now am only using .wav files on all of my players.

I also didnt want to play with the EQ if possible. I was hoping that out of the box would be the best sound, without the need for any tweaking

@kryten123: i had the same situation after testing my DX100 device (comparing against iphone 4 with FLAC Player and flac files)

No WOW effect... i made a A-B Test with D-Filter setting sharp roll-off and recognized no big difference.

There was only one little difference: in combination with Westone W4R the sound of the iphone 4 was more punchy and forwarding.

IMHO the big advantage of using DX100 is in combination with high impedance cans.

I never use these sort of equipment - so in the meantime i sold my DX100

I think to buy good IEM customs is certainly a bigger step forward to improve the sound quality.

On the other hand device issues like getting hot, bad stand-bye time, no possibility to load via USB are negative arguments due minimal sound improvements - i think this device might be a lot  overrated...

Best Regards

I think the best way to test it is the way you mentioned - Using the DX100 for a while, then going back to your J3. smile.gif
