The best all around/balanced sound I got from my DX100 (with no emphasis on anything, just pure music) is with Sen. 598.

They are not good at anything, just good , and comfortable, and fun to listen.

You recommend the Sennheiser 598 really that much with the DX 100? Do they come in Black/Grey besides the advertised Beige?? I just looked at the website and seems only beige......

No, I don't think so. They are meant to resemble the interior of an European saloon car!

You will be pleasantly surprised of 801 sound, if you have a chance to do a serious audition. Don't look at 24/96 and 24/192 difference, as C4 can play 24/192 music as well but 801 sounds alot better than both C4 and 801. The 2 pieces of PCM1704U-K remains the potent DAC that produced very smooth and analogue sound, yet very micro details if you use the balanced or GAME amp module. PCM1704U-K chip has been known as the best DAC ever produced, and can compete easily with the newer modern digital chip of DX100.

 

BTW, how did you know that I am using the Crystal Piccolino cable for my JH16? With this combination, 801 sounds clearer and smoother than DX100.

 

Happy to let you test it if you are in KL Malaysia.

I read your posts, and it seems you know exactly what type of sound signature you require from your portable set up and the Piccolini is the only cable that will fit the bill......

Currawong - I believe you have an L3 - we already know Spkrs thoughts on the L3 and the DX - maybe you could share your findings

 


The L3 is a better amp than what is in the DX100 for the full-size cans I have. My intent on using the L3 was with the HP-P1, but still I'll still take it with me when I use the DX100 as a transportable rig. It will be absolutely BRILLIANT for the Fujiya Avic festival though, as I'll be able to test headphones with it and get consistent results.

 

I've literally dumped quotes of a couple of posts from the last two pages into the FAQ, as people posted good info. At some point I'll probably re-organise all the sections once more info is added.

Haha... sure man. Let me know in advance as I am a frequent flyer due to job requirements.

 

I have 2 Crystal Piccolino cables.... they are really wonderful cables but I bought mine from Jaben, which per piece was more expensive than 801 or DX100!

I was asking about WMA, not FLAC. I'm very well aware what FLAC is; I've got gigs and gigs of the stuff, and gigs of ALAC, too.

 

 

I know WMA is generally used as a lossy high-compression codec, to compete with the likes of .AAC.

I know that wma is prone to errors (unrecoverable errors) as its not as stable as others esp. ape and flac.
