Was listening to this beauty today.

It's stupid good. Powered my pals HE-500's and my Paradox without any fuss. Fantastic sound quality from what I could tell during my all too brief audition of the DX100. My only gripe about this thing is the price. If this thing were half the price then it would be a huge hit.

I've purchased a few of HD Tracks' offerings and they can be hit or miss: just because it's 96/24 or greater does not ensure a good experience. I spent $28 on Let it Bleed by the Stones 176/24 and it was a total mess. I was expecting a listening nirvana and it sounded like a poor recording from an early CD rendering. However, the Return to Forever downloads were outstanding. It goes to show you that it helps to have a good recording to begin with.

hope that helps

I tried this and have been using it for the last couple of hours and zero cracks, pops, etc.  Timing  was perfect because I loaded the DAP with more tunes a couple of days ago and it was cracking, even cutting out for a second most tracks.  I'm away from home so I didn't want to do a factory reset and lose all the music.  I've yet to do a factory reset on this device but this tweak is actually working well right now.

I've never experienced the cracking or popping some compalin about, I wonder why some have this and others don't. The only cracking and popping I hear is when the drummer cracks a rim shot and my ears go pop......what a DAP!

Another oddity.  I have the DAP in standby/sleep mode and have my headphones plugged in.  Every few minutes, I hear a popping noise through the headphones which are sitting next to me.  I've noticed this before but just confirmed it.

The one thing I didn't like was the digital canons. I have a fantastic 1812 but that doesn't do much good as it isn't on my DX100 because it is on a CD and in storage and I can't remember who it is by. I do look forward to any impressions of the the Telarc recording though. I have a credit at HD so maybe I should download it.

The Livingston Taylor hirez music is very enjoyable. I haven't listened to him for a long time and enjoy the music and recording quality.

The big question is which Telarc recording this is as they have done it twice. The first time it was released on lp and the grooves were just insane but the sound was fantastic. They then rerecorded it about 5 years ago for cd/sacd and while still technically impressive the sound and performance to me is inferior to the 1980's lp. I have both.

My bad - I wasn't aware of the two different recordings, I've just always heard the Telarc 1812 referred to as being close to the holy grail of recording dynamics. Maybe HDTracks can enlighten us...

Edit: Looks like it's the 1999 recording, not the famous 1978 one.

Another famous 1812 with live cannons is the Mercury Living Presence from around 1960

You mean to say that you don't get the popping noise? Please plug your headphones for us in your DX100 and put them on your head and turn on/off your device and tell us if there is any noise.iBasso said that all DX100/amps they made they make this noise dues the circuit inside.

No I do hear those if I turn the amp on while the headphones are plugged in, but I never do this. I was referring to those who hear cracking and popping while listening to music.

DX100 as a wireless DAC

If you install a UPnP/DLNA streaming app you can stream music from your PC to the DX. I'm using BubbleUPnP but there are several out there. Once installed you point your DX to your media server of choice.

For example mine lets me choose:
Foobar (using foo_upnp)
Logitech Media Server
Windows Media server
WDTV

You can then play media from that server - either on the DX itself or to various other renders you may have connected to your network. For me the best part is the Playback Stream Capture. This allows me to use Foobar on my PC to control what is being played through the DX. It's not perfect - I get about a 1 second lag between hitting pause on foobar and the music stopping on the DX and it because it's Android based it's currently limited to 44/16 (it seems to stream 192/24 but it doesn't play) - but I can live with.

BubbleUPnP in it's free version has a few limitations - free version (Click to show)
BubbleUPnP free version limitations:

- ads
- Internet streaming with BubbleUPnP Server is limited to 30 minutes per app launch
- the Playlist is limited to 16 tracks
- Library Shuffle is limited to 16 shuffled tracks
- downloads are limited to batches of maximum 40 tracks
- the local renderer is not remotely controllable by external Control Points
- the local Media Server is not browsable by filesystem (SD Card)

I will play with it some more before deciding if it's a keeper of if there is a better option out there.

- I love this little brick!

Agreed, but I still intend to use mine in the car. I have to drive a fair bit for work, so having that little bit better sound quality (compared to straight out of my iPhone) is worth it for me, though that wasn't my purpose for buying it.

It seems to be very ortho-compatible. It's a touch harsh-sounding with my Magnums and nicer with my old AT orthos.

Maybe the brightness will go away with additional burn-in.
