Russian firmware is much better than last I had. And, really faster. Battery lasts whole day.

In one word: recommended. I wish someone finally imports platform it to newer android... pwehh...

Personally I'm preferring the Russian fw in every way, incl sound. I like the airy-ness and detail, bass is spot on for me.

Installing the Russian HDP-r10/DX100 Firmware on your DX100

Here are the tools you need, the iBasso FW update tool (with instructions) and the update.img file (the Russian HDP-r10/DX100 FW).  These instructions and tools are designed for a Windows machine (32 OR 64 bit, both drivers are included).  Drivers listed are for Vista and Windows 7, unsure of the compatibility of latter versions.

DISCLAIMER

If you do this, it is entirely at your own risk, if you brick your device I cannot offer support to unbrick it.  I've used this tool many times and it's always worked perfectly for my DX100, but you have been warned.

I think I am going to attempt this but only if someone can answer these:

- Will this wipe any rooting done, including the root software?
- Will I be able to install APKs without a rooting the DX100? I currently install Spotify via apk of an older version. I use ES File explorer to do this.

I bought the DX100 rooted and with all softwares installed. I basically don't know how to root Androids or anything like that, just sort of figured out how to install APKs via ES file explorer.

The Russian FW (explosion by DOC2008) is rooted when you install - 4 icons on the dap after installing - supersu, hdplayer, settings and es explorer.

All other apps are installed thru es explorer. Not sure with spotify though

FW is a very trimmed down version of Android. I have not been able to install Spotify or Rdio on it, it seems to lack some key elements.

I've got an older Spotify apk that installs fine, the new apk doesn't want to install for some reason.

Good catch, same here. I am guessing it may have to do with compatibility of apks with particular Android version.

-Make sure it's switched on

-Connect USB cable, don't press anything on the screen

-Hold Volume +, press Reset for 1-2 secs, then release (continue to hold the Volume +)

-You'll see windows trying to install it, you may release the volume button now

-Windows will fail to find the driver, now it's your turn to provide it  in device manager using the file provided

Good luck

I was unable to install the Russian firmware. Neither of the proposed solutions worked for me. I always have pink square in the RKBatchTool. It seems that my computer recognizes my dx100 only as USB storage. After plugging dx100 to my computer I never had information about non-succesfull installation of the drivers, except for one time but still I did not have any un-recognized/un-known devices in my computer's device manager.

Presssing the switch button, as suggested by someone, results in lack of any colour in the RKBatchTool.

sorry to hear that.  If you have access to another windows machine it may be worth re-trying.
