I wonder if you can install DX100's firmware to R10. Is that really possible? let us know if that truly work.

I don't have a musical background, so I will do my best to describe the experience with the HDP-R10 from a consumer's point of view. I will only attempt to flash a DX100 firmware if the R10 firmware is too buggy. I don't want to brick it if I don't need to take that risk. It may take a while for it to ship from Japan to Europe. As hdtracks.com doesn't allow purchases to non-US customers, I'll try to find other places to buy 24-bit music from. Meanwhile, I have to find a decent case. I prefer a leather one. I saw a DX100 leather case on a Russian site, but I don't know where I can buy one.

I believe someone already tried (by accident) installing the DX100 firmware to the R10.
It never worked.

The 1st FW of the R10 has the playstore if I remember it correctly.

Not sure if you can use those apk installers using WiFi eg. link

I see. Then how would you compare R10's old firmware to DX100's newest firmware?

Is R10's firmware a lot buggier than DX100's?

Can't comment on R10's performance, I never own one.

Before the R10 was more expensive than the DX100 but you'll have usb charging and longer battery life. But I opted for the DX100, since I use a HP and I do most of my listening in the office.

I'm using stripped rooted 1.2.7 and the UI is acceptable.

Cool. What is HP? do you mean a headphone? is there any special thing about headphone jack of DX100?

I still think R10 is a better unit. It's currently available for 650 dollars.

Headphone smily_headphones1.gif

Output voltage is 8.2v on the dx100. I think r10 is half that.

Wow.. really? I have no idea why they decided to reduce headphone voltage on R10. :/

Do you think it will affect listening a lot? I have a headphone amplifier though.

Ok, let's make an ultimate comparison between DX100 and R10.

What do you guys think?

Price:  R10 > DX100

Sound quality: R10 > DX100

Firmware: DX100 > R10 (?)

Hardware: R10 > DX100. R10 has less harmonic distortion and higher frequency range, longer battery life, etc. It appears a lot superior to DX100. People claim that R10's touch screen is a lot more sensitive also.

Android Store Accessibility: DX100 ?

By the way, I just found that rockbox works on R10!

just to be clear, Rockbox works on the DX100 also.  BUT (and it's a big BUT) it does not have full access to the Sabre Chip, hence it does not sound anywere near as good as the stock player.  Same goes for ANY other 3rd party player, such as Poweramp.

What's power amp? does it work on R10?

Also, is there any way to install Android App manually on R10???

I highly suggest to support this request

the GMMP software player (http://gonemadmusicplayer.blogspot.ru/)

is probably the best one - at least everyone can customize it in the way you like.

As I understood from iBasso, they agreed to disclose the DX100 API to the developers of software players. Therefore, it is a good chance that one day GMMP player will adopted to full power of DX100 DAC chip

(as of now, any software player installed on DX100 will be far not as good as the internal DX100 player, due to Android limitations on the 'communication' of the player with the DAC chip). If the DX100 API will be integrated in GMMP, GMMP will be as good as the DX100 internal player.

Just, please, write something in this topic (http://gonemadmusicplayer.proboards.com/thread/473/dx100-native-support) to show your interest (and to show to GMMP creator that many people could be interested in this option in his nice player:regular_smile :).

an update

it seems that iBasso finally agreed to provide DX100 API to the developer of GMMP after signing a non-disclosure agreement/

the GMMP author, wrote, however

"it looks like i'll be able to get my hands on the api as long as i sign an NDA. However keep in mind this is an extremely low priority task. Chromecast and the UI redesign are much higher priority. I will look at the api to see if i'd be able to easily leverage/integrate.. but please be realistic about your expectations as im not going to allocate a month+ worth of a development time for a device running 2.3 that only benefits a handful of users"

therefore, to assure he GMMP author that many of us are interested in porting his nice player to DX100

please, express you interest at

http://gonemadmusicplayer.proboards.com/thread/473/dx100-native-support?page=2

and vote for DX100 API integration at

https://trello.com/c/pij5TCRG/125-dx100-api-integration

let me thank those of you who already did this:bigsmile_face:
