I didn't have any problems with it either. I am using it with the RSA Intruder. I tried other FW's but stuck with 1.2.7 because I like the sound signature. All in all it's keeping from trying 901's,120's and others like these. That is holding your own weight, imo.

Sure the DX100 has its faults. Yes it is an expensive brick. But I am still waiting for someone to come up with a better one-box solution for (C)IEMs or even full size cans for that matter. And the fact that I use it at my desk really negates the poor battery life and the size and weight of the thing.

My 8.a's look very similar to yours Soren. One sugestion though: try them balanced out of a good amp. To my ears, those 8.a's balanced, are transformed. Also using a Toxic Cables Silver Widow instead of the Magnus changed things in a good way. And noticeable also.

I don't treat it as a portable player (firmly believe that chasing portable hi-fi is a silly endeavour) but as a transportable it isn't beat by anything.

Having the DX100 is like being able to toss your desktop dac and amp into your bag and take them out when you get to your destination.
Kinda funny thing to say.... I'm wondering why you purchased a DX100 if you believe that.

If you spent as much time as me in planes or as a commuter, you'd be looking for portable utopia like me. And that last statement sums the DX100 up nicely. You can get HiFi sound en route and when you get there in one device. But it is bulky. That's why for purely portable use I'm deciding between my RWAK100 and my new DX50. No decision yet.

Except they are not 8a....

I also use fw 1.2.7, sounds perfect with my IEMs. I also like to connect my rsa protector to power my he500s balanced. The dx certainly can power those well but for me I like the flavour the protector in balanced mode offers with the mighty Sabre es9018, sounds great.

In my opinion the ambient noise, distractions, vibrations, interruptions, etc associated with commuting and travel negate most of the sonic advantages top dollar stuff like the DX give. I'd never have gotten one simply to listen to on the metro everyday - especially when I have to carry a phone with me anyway and that would get me most of the way there under those conditions and not have to deal with the bulk of the DX in my pocket.

But, I have moved 9 times in the past 14 years. Every time I've moved I've been without my stuff from 4-6 months. During the summer, I'm often away from home for 6-9 weeks. So I like being able to take something like the DX and a set of cans to see me through. For that it is brilliant.

That makes perfect sense. Certainly far from ideal but somehow I manage to close out those things and use quality isolating IEMs and phones to overcome ambient noise.

Correct... But here's a picture of them with my 8.A:

Sorry for the OT, so let me add that both are phenomenal out if the DX100!

I guess that's my other issue - it's way too dangerous around here to walk around with isolating iems.

And I usually have kids in tow.

has the pop noise when turning it on and off been fixed? what about not playing the first seconds of a song, or having to rename the tags?
I have sold some stuff and I was thinking of giving it a try, but I just want to drag and drop songs and be done with it, I don 't want suddenly pop noises, or missing the first seconds of a song or going through with the file names of the songs.

can someone please tell me what peoblems will I encounter if I get this dap?

Yes, want to know as well.

The tagging issue especially seems like it would be a pain.

If your tags are consistent and reasonably well maintained, there'll be no problems.
