Each to their own.

I work hard for my play money and for something that costs almost $1000 USD there absolutely should not be these types of problems. Yes, you're correct, it's OS (Android) based more than hardware based. If they can get a unit back from America, and have the damn thing shipped BACK here in less than 24 hours...come on. That's poor quality control. They can't have someone do phone support because of language barriers, so they stick to email. But to spend another $40 each time the thing goes back to China? Ridiculous.

As for the other guy...great, Welcome to the thread. Its a phenomenal, quirky, amazing and annoying player. It instills (at least in myself and guys I've been emailing back and forth with) a sense of wonder, aggravation, and sometimes frustration.

It's more than just a music player, thats the greatness of the DX100.

Just got my DX100 back from China! They even put a screen protector on it...I had one on the one I sent them. That was nice of them.

But...they forgot to include my warranty card!

Never ends...

But wifi works great, transfer speeds are great so far, so we'll see...

So recently I've acquired the AK120 DAP (maybe 3 days old).  I've naturally done a comparison of my DAPs AK120, RWAK100, HM-901, & DX100. The AK120 performs really well especially with DSD even when it's realtime converted/downsampled for it's PCM-only DAC.

Stacking the AK120 against the RWAK100, it's quite clear the AK120 just has higher fidelity - larger sound stage, greater depth, more refined airy highs, and fuller vocals (this is probably one of the more prominent improvements of the other factors I've mentioned) . Against the HM-901 however, the AK120 does have the smaller staging sound. The HM-901 to my ears just feel like another level up from the AK120 (both with the latest firmwares).

I'm currently comparing the AK120 with my well and truly burnt in DX100.  A few weeks ago, I performed the same tests at the store with ExpatInJapan and I felt the DX100 had an edge over the AK120 however it seems quite a few AK120 owners have been raving about it's new firmware improving it's sonics I'm redoing this test. To my surprise, the DX100 still has the edge over the AK120 despite it's newer 1.32 firmware.

The DX100 against the HM-901 however, the tables have turned somewhat. For the most part the HM-901 does have the bigger sound - kind of a large hall presentation. However there are some odd albums/genres where I prefer the DX100 over the HM-901.

It's somewhat comforting to know that DX100 is still quite competitive against most newer DAPs and has truly stood the test of time. Admittedly my DX100 has probably had the longest burn in time more so than any of my other DAPs.

Thanks for the comparisons.

Been using the DX100 for almost 1.5 year, although the DX100 has better SQ than the AK120, I am still going to get AK120 for it's more portability and longer battery. I kept monitoring the issues discussed for the AK120 for almost half year and it seems now is the time to get it bigsmile_face.gif

Despite my love for the DX100 (and I've been threatening to do this for some time now), I think I am ready to let go of my DX100. Kind of where the HM-901 replaces the DX100, and the AK120 replacing my RWAK100. There are some things the DX100 does better than the HM-901 but unfortunately those are in the minority.

At least that's my DAP plans :D.

Got my second hand dx100 yesterday. Wifi doesn't work as expected. Sound wise pretty good.

The Wifi should have probably  been left off of the DX100. I guess they were trying to use all the possible capabilities. I tried it a couple of times in the beginning and downloaded a few apps but after that, never used it. Distance, it was good for about 30 feet.

Otherwise the dap is excellent sounding, IMO.

The wifi is indeed very horrible, I had visions of streaming MOG on the go tethered to my phone when I'm away from my library of music but that died quickly......it's fairly useless even at point blank ranges.

Been awhile since I visited head fi.....lot of new reference DAPs has actually come out and is coming out.  Been very happy with the dx100 with the 1.27 firmware all this time listening to iems like 4R, heir stuff, shure se535 etc.  Not to mention the unit is my to go reference setup with the MK3 for my LCD-2.  Really has served me well......but I'm seeing a lot of noise about the HM901 and the AK120 these days, might spring for the AK120 not to replace but just as a smaller package.....anxiously waiting to see how the dx50 measures up though.....though it seems like most anticipate the dx50 to not be a top contender but a good performer.

I think you will not be disappointed with the AK120. Overall, it is a nice sounding DAP although SQ wise, I would still place the DX100 slightly ahead. Personally, I cannot imagine the DX50 to be equal or better than the DX100 in SQ. It just does not seem logical but we will only know for sure when it is released. I am wary of the HM901 after reading reports of poor QC confused.gif I will wait until the dust settles before deciding. By then, maybe the AK140 will be released etysmile.gif

I was initially having  interest on HM901. But so many bugs on hardware and firmware pushed me away and eventually I got Dx100.

Yeah, I'm tending toward the ak120 for now, I will wait another 1-2 months and see how things pan out.  Too many positive reviews from "the guys" of head fi to be a bad performer.  Would give me time to sort out new ciems too if I decide on that as well.  Meanwhile, jamming away on the DX100 and just keep that charger close and handy heh.

To iBasso DX100 owner,

I am not sure that if you guys have noticed that SanDisk just launched a MicroSD/SDHX/SDHX 64GB EXTREME version!
This EXTREME MicroSD reading speed is up to 80MB/s and write speed is up to 50MB/s.
I have tried it out on my DX100 and guess what....fully loaded my 64GB with 24/192 albums and DX100 just read them like that without needed to wait for few minutes like the MicroSD Ultra version.
This MicroSD EXTREME 64GB is the one to go with and not the ULTRA version.

I hope this help you to choose your MicroSD card!

Cheers!
