I find returning to 1.2.7 very relaxing. The sound is not so "precise" as 1.4.2 but it compensates with more "musicality" - excuse the personal terminology but I am new to the hobby and english is not my native language.

The 1.4.2 sounded clear but made my 5.0's almost sibilant some times. The bass was more controlled but less warm and lush. I am still listening critically and trying to decide but returning to 1.2.7 was almost like returning home from a vacation: warm, relaxing and familiar.

The whole comparison is made taking into consideration 5.0's response to the software version.

Setup: dx100 - rsa intruder - heir audio 5.0

My 2 cents...

Thanks Black.

I've moved to 1.4.2...havent listened critically as yet or run any comparison to other firmwares as I am also trying out my new JH13 FP.

However, with this combo it sounds great to me biggrin.gif

Nice to have choices. I haven't had any musical interface problems for some time but I think I go more straight to the music than some as I don't make lists etc.

What would be great, is if iBasso can find a way to combine all those different firmware choices and let users select which firmware to turn on, to go with the music played. kinda like a super version of custom EQ settings. Now that would be an amazing update.

Some times listening to Kelly Sweet, on 1.2.7, she'd sound heavenly and with the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack, the 1.4.2 would be amazing.

I got my DX100 back yesterday. Excellent warranty service from IBasso: they fixed my charging issues, put it in a new battery, and it works like new again. I'm not mechanically-inclined and the five required tools for changing the battery were intimidating to me, so I'm glad they took care of this.

I was without my DX100 for a total of 10 days; it would have been nine, but there were mechanical difficulties on the UPS return flight which added another day. Ironically, my backup 6 year old Sansa Fuze died the day the IBasso came back from China. I'm hoping that the next time I need to send my DX100 back for warranty repairs I'll have the DX50 as a backup

I dropped it off at FedEx Tuesday night, earlier today it cleared through customs, and I just got notification that it was delivered to IBasso. $90 to ship, not that bad for two-day service to China.

Anyway, they're going to hopefully fix everything, and install a new battery--just a $15 charge for the battery. I'm using my backup Sansa Fuze with Rockbox for the time-being--not all that bad with noise-cancelling headphones, but using the headphone jack of the Fuze for home and car use after the having the DX100 for a year is a bit painful. Hopefully I'll get my renovated DX100 back next week.

One thing I did realize though after temporarily going back to the Rockboxed Fuze, is that it would be nice if IBasso could go add more functional features that Rockbox has. For example, go beyond gapless (which is still glitchy for me--I still hear a brief pop in the beginning of the next song), and add some cross-fading features that Rockbox has. The gapless on IBasso cuts off some of the end of the outgoing song and the beginning of the incoming song, instead of mixing like Rockbox. Maybe the V2 framework will have this, or whatever firmware comes with the DX50.

Also I do miss Rockbox's speed. Swapping micro SD cards on the Sansa Fuze takes seconds, and there's almost no latency--like 2 seconds, when adding or deleting songs to the card. With IBasso, that can sometimes take over an hour. Like a lot of you, I put up with the delay because the sound is so incredible, but 64 GB is not a lot of space for 24 bit music--it would be awesome if these high-end players wouldn't take forever to index or whatever the hell they do for an hour after changing content.

anyone played around with the EQ to make 1.4.2 sound like 1.2.7? care to share the settings?smily_headphones1.gif

lol sounds like you just need to revert back to 1.2.7 ;).

might revert back but i just want to try ibasso's suggestion to use the dreaded EQ lol

I like 1.4.2 functionally - relatively smoother ui and playback

Can I ask a question here which might be answered before. Is HDP R10 compatible with all the firmwares of dx100?
Nope, the dx100 firmware is not compatible with the Japanese version

You can check post 11555 wink.gif

Bowtung jotted down a HM-901 comparison to the DX100 which I thought was quite well written :-

Thought I'd share it with here with some DX100 owners who may be curious.

Thanks~
