I got a feeling that I might have to buy a dx100 back and sell my 901 and AK100eek.gif

Why is that?

haha that was just a assumption. I haven't received ak100 yet which I will do in next couple of days. But I don't hold my hope too high. For 901, I start to dislike its lack of transparency with HD switch on (even on high gain), although it adds a musical factor (weight and warmth etc.) compared to dx100. It just doesn't give me that feeling of airiness and extension. Dx100 to me sounds more spacious and transparent, but it's lacking some kind of weight to the sound, and the treble can be sometimes peaky, well on very few situations (1.2.7, 1.3.5).  There is just no perfect DAP out there.

I start to prefer the control of dx100 (to 901) although I hate the volume control. 901 is slow with the firmware at the moment and it just stops doing anything with no reason quite often (have to turn if off and back on). although Fang promised the compatibility of 128 g card, it's still far from ideal. Very slow when you have massive amount of songs in cards. So from this point, I might choose dx100 since it's quicker.

You should prepare yourself for some kind of a betatest of the 901's firmware, because the company is not large. We had a betatest of dx100 FW from 1.0.3 till 1.1.7. And then iBasso worked mainly on the sound. In 901 the main problem is two DACs on board in a non desktop body. The 9018 chip has very big requirements to the circuit design, witch are not easy to meet. Some russian engineers think, it is a doubtful decision for a portable player and that a DAP doesn't need a second DAC chip if it's not r2r multybit. Have you heared the latest FW of dx100?

AK100 mod is great if you just use iems. I am starting to reconsider buying 901...does not look so perfect after all. DX100 is great soundwise, but too big for me.

No. I haven't since my dx100 is sold, since I didn't need too many DAPs. I will see how AK100 pair with my earphones (high impedance ones) if it's good enough, I will just get rid of my other DAPs. If it's not, then I don't know what to do.

Yeah. I should wait for update of 901's firmware too. Hopefully they will resolve those bugs.

Thanks. I checked it when you mentioned it here yesterday. Looks good. But sound quality is the most important thing for me. Let's see how it can keep up with dx100:)

After spending a couple of weeks with 1.4.2 I find myself going back to 1.2.7. I started to feel 1.4.2 a little to high in the highs. Although this was not my impression after installing it. I am curious how 1.2.7 will sound to me now...(haven't had the time to listen after the factory reset)
