Yep... Something wrong for sure I'd say. The last description I'd have for mine is muddy. Although the DX is known for its solid bass, it is not over emphasised as by comparison in now find my iPhone 5 noticeably more muddy low down than the DX. Only way I'd get muddy is if the cans were muddy or from poor rips etc. What source you using and which phones?

I've often seen it said that some people find the DX100 disappointing because music they thought sounded great on their iDevice sounded poor on the DX but that seemed more because you get such clarity and detail poor recordings offer all the faults disguised on other DAPs. I don't think that is elitist just fact. And I have to say that I have been gradually re-ripping my older CDs that were done at 128kbps on early software with favourites now on flac.

But none of that to me explains muddy! I recall you saying that you found 1.3.7 muddy. Did you revert to 1.2.7 to check? Personally, I'm happy with 1.3.7 as I've already noted, but short of A/Bing with someone else, I think you should contact iBasso. They may recommend you use their tool to reinstall your FW first. Certainly worth a try. That will reformat everything to replicate a new DAP that's never had any previous version on it.

yeah, the ipod sounds thinner, but heaps more detailed.

I'm listening with FLAC,ALAC, and 24 bit FLAC. They all seem to exhibit the same sound characteristic. I don't think I'll mess with the firmware because there would need to be virtually a night and day difference, and I don't think there is with the different firmwares. I've emailed them and asked for a return form, but they're shut right now because of Chinese New Year.

Did you use Windows to reformat? I seem to recall that you need to either use the Mac Utility or the Panasonic formatter on Windows to successfully format them. I used a Mac and it worked straight up.

how did you store the files?smily_headphones1.gif I'm using a 64gb microsd too. It is advisable to store all your music inside 'music' folder smily_headphones1.gif

x:\music\album

also try to fix the tags using lee's guide smily_headphones1.gif

also, try to roll back to 1.2.7. as figgie mentioned ibasso bumped up the 35hz and below frequencies in 1.3.5 ( also 1.3.7 assumming the sq is the same) that could probably cause the 'muddy' sound

lol that don't sound right at all. An ipod could only dream of being on the same level. Something is not right... Just revert back to 1.2.7 and see if that suites you better. It doesn't take a lot of effort. Download the firmware. Drag and drop to the internal memory and unplug from PC and initialize the update. Then once it boots do a factory restore and then test it out. I really think you prefer rolled off bass to be honest. In that case looks for a DAP with bass roll off (Tera Player) or Colorfly CK4. I think in terms of the least amount of bass 1.1.7 was the firmware (or the firmware before 1.2.3 I mean).

I had a not similar but close experience. The iBasso out of the box sounded to me much darker than my cowon player. After 150 hours of burn in the amp calms down and it sounds good...maybe that is your problem ?

He actually finds the Studio V bass to be overwhelming for him which brings me to the conclusion he likes rolled off bass. There's nothing wrong with that but any leaner on the bass and it would be rolled off IMO in regards to the Studio V 3rd ANV.

Actually, the sound of the Studio V has come good. I don't know if that was the result of burn-in or my ears just became accustomed to the sound.

I used a program called Format32 (or something with a similar name).

Well, I just now ordered my DX100.  Now comes the hard part, the wait.

How long does the New Year celebration last?  When I ordered I received a message saying that it would ship in no later than 2 business days, but I'm wondering if the NY celebration might mess that estimate up...

Been listening to my DX most of the day, mostly Country today and Jazz tonight. Must be having a weird day! Anyway been swapping around my different phones and have to say I am just loving my Sennheiser HD25-II with this DAP. Though the bass doesn't go down quite as far as the DT1350s the quantity is in my sweet spot. And getting no sibilance or fatigue from the bright treble they have.

Man I am loving this DAP/phone combination. And no intermittent play stoppages either. Wow, how good is that... Just listened to the closing bars of a nice jazz piano solo and you could hear the pedal release as the pianist lifted his foot off the damper. Just like being in the jazz bar next to him.

Never heard your Studio V Lee, but you sure you won't be buying another DX100 soon?

In China, last date of the CNY holiday is 15 Feb, so your order will hopefully be processed by early next week. normal_smile%20.gif

I'm waiting for my DX100 also. Reading all these good and bad comments about it makes the wait all the more painful. Hope it'll be all that I expect it to be.
