Hey Head-Fi Gang,
HeadRoom spent the better part of last week and all weekend rocking out with the new Shure SRH1440 and SRH1840 open-back headphones and our first impression is we could not be more pleased. Sure (
), they are perhaps just a tad bit pricier than we'd initially hoped but we all know good stuff rarely comes cheap and both cans are indeed delivering some seriously good stuff, albeit in wholly different ways.
Our first take is we hear the SRH1840 as the 'laid-back', slightly mellower but more expansively detailed big brother versus the active, lively and 'forward' presentation of the SRH1440 model, but there's no question each offers a distinct tonal approach. They do share excellent resolution power and impressive clarity of detail at all frequencies, likely a testament to Shure's pro monitoring background in recording and studio environments. Both cans are still undergoing 'burn-in' as i write this and they've been fast-tracked to the lab, so we hope to get our HeadRoom audio measurements up for these within the next couple of weeks, along with our usual in-depth analysis (in our "What We Think" tabs) for each model.
