Grados GR10 or Ety ER-4PT?

Hi,

I'm in the market for a pair of IEMs, right now I am using the sennheiser CXC 700 NC earphones, but I've heard I can get better sound and Noise isolation with IEMs, so I was looking at the Grados GR10 and the ER-4PT, I understand they use different technology, which one sounds better?  Which one has less microphonic cord effect?  And which one is easier to put on with proper seal?  I mainly use my iPhone 4 to listen to MP3s.

Anoher new one I heard was the Westone UM3X, but not sure how that one is, alot of people on amazon seem to be using the ER-4P.  I want the best sound and noise isolation, and ease of putting it on.

Thanks,

G'day butters, I have the Etymotic ER-4PT & love their sound signiture, they also offer some of the best noise isolation going. BUT Now here is the point, I hope you dont mind deep insertion into your ears....because thats how it is. Although eventually I got used to it others hated it.

Now funny you mention the Grado GR10, because I have heard nothing but glowing praises about them. Even from people who had both.

So I hope  I haven't confused you too much.

Have owned all 3 and they all sound very different.

As far as best ergonomics and least microphonics and most bass as well as biggest dynamic range sound, UM3X would be it.  Only negatives are it is a dedicated stage monitor so a bit dry and bland and not real crisp sounding.  Everything is smooth.

ER4PT is outstanding treble and clarity and crispness.  Great isolation, very quick and easy to put on and take out.  Microphonics are bad but the supplied shirt clip helps.  Bass is on the lean side.

GR10 is sort of in between the two.  An earbud so the least amount of isolation between all (but it does still isolate).  Perfectly balanced, very airy, great harmonics and very musical.  A real pleasure to listen to.  No real faults other than it does not have a lot of slam to it.  Very well made, easy in and out, small but a bit pricey at $399  For $399 I would prefer the W3.

I have the Gr10 and the iphone 4 and they make a great combo.  I keep mine in an old ultimate ears case and take them with me everywhere.  The iphone sound sig is nice with them. I tried them with my cowon j3 but they were a little bright with out the headphone bbe setting to add a little bass. Love the combo though but have not tried the westones or the er4pt.

+1 for the GR10.  I had all three.  I believe candc07 has one for sale normal_smile%20.gif  Here's my pros/cons for them:

1) GR10

Pro - Everything that Spyro mentioned.

Con - Spartan accessories, the genuine tips and filters are very expensive at $25; most expensive of the three; can't get them brand new from a Grado authorized source for less than $399.

2) ER-4PT

Pro - Everything that Spyro mentioned; cheapest of the three and you can get them for as low as $175 from B&H when it's very temporarily marked down.

Con - Everything that Spyro mentioned; also goes in the canal a lot deeper than the other two, which was too much for me and I never liked the triple flange tips which gives you the greatest isolation over the other two.

3) UM3X

Pro - Everything that Spyro mentioned.  Impressive detail separation. Can usually be purchased from earphonesolutions for 15-20% off with the appropriate coupon code.  If you desire the UM3X sound but at much cheaper price, try the Vsonic GR07.

Con - Everything that Spyro mentioned
