Qick rant (Grado build quality)

Grados are very excellent headphones for the price but please design a more robust gimbal, no plastic, all metal. Had 3 Grados, all failed at the gimbal, 2 broke, one came unglued (though I can reglue). It's understandable to use plastic for the cheapest models if needed but on the higher end models there is no reason.

thanks,

Joshua

If you are careful and just use them at home then no problem. If you wear them alot everywhere and tend to shove them in your backpack and such, very likely.

grado headphones have problems either way, for me its always been the rattle.

I haven't noticed, my first pair (SR60, SR80) I had like 15yrs ago but don't recall any issues. I just remember being wowed by the overall clarity even compared to a Sony MDR-V6 I owned around the same time. The recent pair I bought a couple months ago I modded not long after and only bought as a temporary till I could afford some better circumaural phones. (which I hope to buy in a few days, if I can decide between AKG K550 and Denon D2000)

I haven't any problems, but I agree.  The plastic just that clamps the cups, and the plastic slide need to gtfo.  I can't take that the L/R slides are plastic!

There is no reason for plastic once you get up into and past the 325si price range. Metal doesn't have to be expensive anyway, saw a Grado mod using a coat hanger with custom block, lol.

I always handled my gear well, whether it's because of the delicate finish (like the HD600) or because the build quality doesn't inspire confidence (most Grados). I dented one of my gymbals once because I packed hurriedly after a meet, emailed Grado to inquire how much for one, and they sent me a replacement free of charge.

That said I still think they should  come up with better parts, specifically the slider. I really think that shouldn't be sliding around too much; maybe some sort of stopper to keep it easy to slide but be able to lock it into place would be great. The plastics I can live with, except on the 325 - the gymbals should at least match the cups or be close enough in color.

Nothing like leaving your Grados in a car with the windows rolled up and picking them up and the rod caps (the little stoppers) both fall out on you.

Then proceed to tell your friend you spend 200 bucks on a SR-225 and the look you'll receive is priceless.

I still like 'em.

It's odd, I shoved mine in my book bag all of last semester and they never got damaged.

Well two of mine broke many years ago and my most recent one has come unglued. Doesn't mean it will happen to you though.

I know, but I was completely-not-at-all-safe with mine. They should have crumbled. :P
