Somic is the brand it appears. They are USB headphones & the 7.1 surround sound is done virtuallyon your computer though its driver.
Thanks. I also thought it's Somic, but not 100% sure.
That's the Somic G945, a crap virtual 7.1 headphone.
I had one of these here and they:
- Didn't fit my ear, they're small and uncomfortable
- Had no bass at all, only vibration
- Complete lack of highs
- Harsh and distorted mids
- No surround at all (the 7.1 doesn't works)
So, that means it fails as a gaming headphone and as a music headphone at the same time.
If you're interested in surround headphones (a good reason would be that you're an FPS player), I'd suggest you into looking for real surround headphones, such as Somic E-95 v2010, Ozone Strato Evo and Roccat Kave. But if you really want a headphone only to listen to music, stay far away from any surround headphone.
Currently, I have a Somic G989 (US$ 93, USB 5.1), a Somic MM163 (US$ 53, Professional Monitor) and a Shure SRH550DJ (US$ 110, DJ Headphones). It's pretty much damn obvious as to which one is the best for listening to music, but I'd rather play on PC using the G989's, even though their audio quality is bad compared to the Shure, but it's due to the surround, which adds immersion into the game.
But as I said, if you want Music, get some low-end Sennheiser, a Koss Porta Pro or something like that. It all depends on how much budget you can spend.
Anyway, stay away from the Somic G945, it's the second worst headphone of this brand.
If you are into spending US$ 100 on a 7.1 "Headphone", wouldn't it be a better deal to buy something like an audio-technica A700 or AD700?
Not sure if TS mind is set up or stuff already bought but if u looking cheap i would seriously consider stereo/wired cans + MIC? The Superlux 668B or JVC RX700 definitely punch way above there price tags
edit: ya good call on Porta Pros as well!
Those headphones are 25~35 bucks. What's up with suggesting 100 bucks headphones as if they were cheap? Just get some Koss Porta Pro for this price or something similar. Best of all, no amps or external soundcard required, let's not scare the crap out of the rookie with somewhat expensive and/or higher impedance headphones and their set-ups, even though the AD700 doesn't requires them either.
Now, here's a good suggestion. It really depends whether or not he's an hardcore FPS player (and there are lots of these). A surround headphone would be nice for FPS, but only for that. You could buy some low-end HiFi headphones and buy an external clip-on microphone. Or maybe even a desktop microphone, they're not expensive at all.
