Looking for Music Fidelity X-can v8. Please help!!

I have searched high and low for this thing, and I have not been able to find one for sale. All I can find is old FS threads that are closed out and sold.

 

I have literally checked every forum, thread, and google hit when I type "music fidelity X-can v8 for sale", and still nothing. I know they stopped making it, so I am sure that finding one wont be easy. Seems like nobody wants to get rid of theirs!

 

I own Denon d7000s and I keep hearing that for the price, this thing is where I want to be. I listen to a lot of dance/electronica, and am using an apogee duet for a DAC. I listen to mostly apple lossless recordings.

 

The apogee duet is GREAT as a DAC, but the headphone amp definitely leaves something to be desired. The volume just doesn't get that loud. frown.gif I like that the X-can V8 is a tube/SS hybrid, and according to several reviews has extremely good synergy with Denons.

 

Can anyone tell me either where I can purchase a new one, or have one that they would be willing to sell?

 

If the X-can V8 truly is impossible to find, than can someone give me a suggestion for a comparable amp that has as good synergy (if not better??)  in the price range of about $400 - $600? Thank you!! biggrin.gif

Musical fidelity (none tube) M1 HPA seems to have the same characteristic

as X-can v.8.

I can only compare to v.1  and  find M1 HPA better.

You will need a good PSU with X-can v.8.

X-psu v8 will probably cost same as the amp.

Is the PSU completely necessary? It doesn't already come with everything necessary to power it?

 

Sorry, I'm new to the world of headphone amps. I was under the impression that it just plugs into the wall for power.. confused_face(1).gif

Man the X-CANV8 is highly sought after these days. I haven't seen one come up for sale in a long time unfortunately. I bought one back in 2009 from Music Direct for $500 and as of now I don't know what the price for a used model would even be. I would guess $400 seems to be a good amount, but since thye are rare they might be more expensive. PinkFloyd at Rock-Grotto has a few so you could ask him if he's willing to part with one, but since he's in Ireland the shipping will be expensive. 

 

The PSU is not necessary at all. The stock walwart is really good on it's own. The PSU will only improve the dynamics, bass, and soundstage slightly. I own the Little Pinkie V3i PSU and it did make a difference but what it big? Not really but it's nice to have deeper bass and a larger soundstage. Oh and the noise floor drops and the background becomes even darker. That's about it as far as improvements go.

 

The Pinkie PSU goes for $300-ish new from Rock-Grotto and they are hand made in Ireland with nice parts.

Ok. Well if I ever get my hands on one I would probably spring for a PSU like you're talking about. Thanks for the info.

 

I was also looking at Music Fidelity's new M1 HPA, but I like the SS/tube hybrid idea. Apparently everyone else seems to like it too. 

 

Is roc grotto a member here as well?
