Which should I choose? Schiit Asgard or Little Dot MKIII

Both of these are at my $250 budget, with the Asgard actually going to cost me more at $280 because of California tax.

I don't mind having to mess with tubes for the Little dot, and they'll give me something good to "photograph" when I'm bored.

Admittedly, none of my headphones are hard to drive, with the hardest probably being my Fostex T50RP.

Here is my current setup.

Source: Macbook Air (this could be variable, but for now it's the MBA)

DAC: FiiO E10

Amp: ????

Headphones: Sennheiser HD598, Brainwavz HM5 (Similar to Fischer Audio FA-003), and Fostex T50RP.

I listen to pretty much everything, but the bulk of it is probably stuff like Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, Weezer, Queen, Boston, Moby, Miles Davis, Female Jazz vocals...

Go with the Little Dot, the shipping + taxes will quickly add up to over $250 on the Asgard.

I was faced the same dilemma a couple of weeks ago. After brief communication with David /LD/  I've decided to go with LD Mk III – my main concern was not to overwarm HD598. David said it is not going to happen besides I have option to experiment with different tubes for different music/cans. But I have to wait for Chinese New Year to pass /till 29.01/ before it getting shipped. If you gonna go with LD be aware the prices will go up – for Mk III from 194 to  209 USD.But I guess if you contact LD right after 29 th you could ask for original price. If you want to see what David told me about Senn HD 598 and LD Mk III, PM me.

If you already have the E10 USB/DAC/headphone amplifier, do not see a reason to buy a new headphone amplifier.

The Sennheiser HD-598 are only 50-Ohm headphones and easy to drive.

A $280 headphone amplifier is really not going to make the HD-598 sound that much better then the E10.

Well here's the thing.  Eventually that E10 is going to end up at work.  So I'm going to need something at home (and a new DAC when this happens).  I also feel like the Fostex needs a little more juice than what the E10 is giving me right now.

Personally, I would not spend $250 for a headphone amplifier for 50-Ohm headphones, think it's a little overkill.

I would think a Fiio E9 (and with a Fiio D5) would work.

Or something like the E9 but with a built in USB/DAC.
