I consider myself a very honest person, but when people ask me how much I paid for my headphone system I have a hard time being honest about it. I guess I am almost a bit embarrased as I know people would never understand the experience of high-end sound signatures, depth, resolution etc.
Like when someone asked me recently about what my headphones cost I hesitated briefly but I said the right price. I got a look implying "dude, imagine what you could do with that money! You could buy a cheap car!". When on the other hand I was asked about the price of the headphone amp I just got caught up in a web of embarrasment and the words just slipped out of me: "Oh, that was included in the price". Which, of course, it was not.
I should be proud of my hobby but I have a hard time with that. I can imagine from other peoples perspectives how silly it must seem as they probably do not hear much of a difference between a high-end system compared to "regular" listening.
Anyone else have this problem? Any advice would be appreciated.
