It's Experiment No. 6, but since the noise begins in the segue from the previous track it doesn't sound as well-done when you listen to this one alone.

Muppet, hope you don't mind me livening up the thread a little by starting a little game called guess my gear

I shall soon have some new gear to blabber about. It should be in my hands in about 5 days or so. I sort of went out of character and ordered some new mobile audio equipment that's neither an IEM or a real headphone. If truth be known I've had my eye on it for months more due to the fact that it looks like a nice stylish curiosity and although it's not unknown on head-fi in the big scheme of things few people own it and even fewer people are seen walking around with it on the street but it is easy enough to order and it isn't overly expensive. From what I've read it sounds not to bad. The only two hints I will give out is the form factor has some very nice stylish wood and it's made by a very well known Japanese audio company.

So any guesses?

LOL.

I'm just that awesome, I guess.

(Actually, I've been thinking about their EM and EW series for a while too. I was even going to make a diary entry about them. : D)

It seemed relatively easy. I actually bought a pair of those for my sister. General impressions of it on Head Fi are pretty accurate.

I expect a full report when you get them, DF. They deserve more exposure than they get.

Speaking of Audio-Technica, the CKW1000ANV is really impressive imho. I'm sure my super-clean de-waxified ears have something to do with my melting right now, and maybe it's also their coloration and the way vocals sound so damn expressive and tangible on them. Going back and listening to something super analytic, the RE-272 for example, I can immediately tell the difference. As far as I'm concerned these are some of the absolute best IEMs I've listened to for vocals. It captures that magic of the W series in an IEM form factor.

Bass is quite thumpy, and maybe a little ill-mannered without an amp. I can see Audio-Technica's approach though having read impressions of the CK100Pro as well: I'm guessing these are far less critical and voiced to be more relaxed. Seems like a colorful antithesis to the CK100Pro, two different approaches to honor their 50th Anniversary. I can also see why this would be the more limited of the two: it's more rarified, more of an acquired taste. Again I haven't heard the CK100Pro (yet), but am basing this off of impressions I've read of them.

It's also worth noting that these have the absolute nicest carry case I've ever seen included with universal IEMs. It has a smaller case inside a larger compartmentalized one, so if you just want to detach it and take the IEMs along you can, or you can re-attach it and bring along all your accessories too. Very nice, AT. Very nice.

Is this some super-secret Audio-Technica in-ear product that I don't know about? tongue_smile.gif Perhaps with 53mm instead of 14mm drivers?

I completely agree. The CKW1000ANV is decidedly superior to the CKM1000. I'm not sure why people are saying it isn't. Yes, the CKM1000 has superior clarity, but the CKW1000ANV is handedly superior in timbre, dynamics, and transparency. The CKM1000 sounds thin, pale, and weak in comparison.

You'll have to listen to the CK100PRO in person to understand its prowess, though (*Hint *Hint). I just did a comparative listening session with it against the original CK100 --- doing a write-up as we speak.

It's their upcoming custom IEM I'm actually not supposed to talk about yet. Whoops!

Very nice. I'll have to look their stuff up. I like how the music is this lurid backdrop that accompanies the story told through the clinician's notes. It reminds me of a soundscape I did once concerning the Milgram experiment, though of course this is much better.

The music itself sort of reminds me of this:

Also, unexpectedly enjoyable synergy: Z1000 with my old nuforce uDAC! :D

I wrote a few hundred words this morning that were supposed to be about the 4.A but it had devolved into some silly grand sweeping statements about IEMs generally. Sometimes the best editor is the bulk eraser.

Sometimes I wear 'em and realize after an hour that I hadn't gotten around to cuing up any music. The fit is very good but I don't know if it's dialed in. The sound is very good but it makes me wonder if I'm missing anything. Am I imagining imperfections? More contemplation is needed.

Aww, I like wandering musings and grand sweeping statements about IEMs. That's definitely in keeping with this thread's spirit.

Listening to my partner's MD Tributes now. They actually sound a bit like the CKW1000ANV. Bassy, warm, laid back, emotionally involving. Definitely need to do some A/Bing between the two. Build quality and packaging are okayish. It's like they wanted to convey a feeling of luxury, but didn't quite get there. The metal Monster badge on the carry case for example is oddly misaligned, like someone fixed it to the case at the factory without bothering to make sure it was straight. Cable seems a bit thin and flimsy, which surprised me a bit given that Monster is primarily a cable manufacturer. The finish on the IEMs themselves is nice though. They look pretty spiffy. Monster also threw in like a bajillion different tips

As a slight addendum to the above post, I'm noticing that the CKW1000ANV seems a bit more vaporous compared to the Tributes. Its soundstage is a bit more expansive, which could contribute to this somewhat.

I think the CKW1000ANV may be a bit darker as well.
