Holy ****, you guys pay over .35c /kWh in Hawaii! eek.gif My bill would be almost $1400 /month there. Viarge du Criss...

I'm not sure exactly what it is per hour but its not cheap lol. One of my friends in the mainland has a similar household size but a bit bigger than ours and he pays around $100 a month or maybe a tad less :P. Plus they just jacked up the price blaming it on fuel costs. HECO are crooks (monopoly all the way).

Hmm, haven't really followed the last ~500 pages very well and don't have time, looks like MF isn't posting right now.

What are the highlights of the audio adventures?

I think you should catch up on those 500 pages whenever you get time - plenty of interesting discussions, just not audio adventures.

BTW, advance congratulations for your 10,000th post (which should happen before my 500th). Sorry for the intrusion, but I am just trolling around to reach my goal of 500 posts before end of 2012. Back to lurking....

I'm so busy now I won't reach 10,000 posts for a really long time.

The saying is "there's a sucker born every minute".  It's attributed to PT Barnum.

Which is relevant to the discussion, because one sucker a day wouldn't be enough to keep the $500 power cable business thriving.

Maybe Mupp's hot date from a few days ago has decreased posting?  wink_face.gif

Since its a boutique market that charges such exorbitant prices to begin with in comparison to what it actually costs to produce those cables I'm sure 1 a day could still keep them afloat ;). I think I'd be pretty fine with a $10,000 cable sale a day :P lol

I finally wrote another blog post (haven't done so in some time) and I figure that some regulars on the thread might find this a little bit interesting. :)

Some really basic social science / philosophy here, but I tried to give a concentrated little run-down of some of the idea.

700

Yes this is a shameless plug but I would love discussion. Please leave comments on the post if you have any :)

Yeah, with all this new workload, and when my girlfriend arrives in September, I doubt I'll be on head-fi very much at all any more, or building amp's and DAC's which I had just started recently.

I made an ameblo.jp/ blog when I hit 9000 posts, no entries there yet.

I do use nice Panamax surge protectors with lifetime warranties, however.

That's pretty good since McIntosh was long in the camp of cables not mattering.

On the whole, though, I consider cables audio jewelry. If it makes people happy to buy them, I don't see the harm. Somebody who can consider buying $2,000 cables -- whether or not they're snake oil -- is somebody who probably will not be put in financial jeopardy by the cost.

Some fun game / geek related music, a good cause. So far I've only listened to the They Might be Giants Album, which is fun.

Nice mix of artists I like and artists I'd never heard of and am intrigued by. Thanks for the tip, I'll grab this tonight.

I'll give that a read tonight as well...

I would not mind if you were to hang around and talk amps and dacs. August looks like my first month in a while where I might have my head above water, workload-wise, and I'm contemplating amp kits to build something for my partner's desk system.

No doubt. I concur 100%. I like snazzy looking cables with thick tubing, cool looking sleeves, and colorful heat shrink, I make them myself. If someone wants to pay $5k for something similar, more power to them. Now, if someone asks my opinion about if they make a difference in sound, I'll tell them, but I'm not going to beat people over the head with my beliefs.

Thread Starter

Taking a head-fi breather for the time being. I've been finishing up some transactions and responding to PMs, but overall I wont be posting much over the next week or so.

A few things to note. I'll be downsizing my collection rather extensively, and while I prefer local transactions, if there's a specific item any of you diary folks are interested in then shoot me a PM. Things that I wont be selling: FAD and Stax stuff, HeAudios, FitEars, K3003, Ocharaku Flat-4, TakeT H2+, Sony Qualia 010, Fostex TH900 and Paradox, YH-1000, and Grado HP1000.

I'm listening to the original Stax SR-Omega right now; it just further solidifies my preference for electrostats. It's similar in some respects to the SR-009, but there's a certain accentuated delicacy to its sound in comparison, perhaps due to the bass which isn't quite as robust, though it also has a more expansive spatial presentation compared to its successors, with just the slightest hint of that "semipanoramic vapor" that has come to be a stereotype of electrostatic sound. As befitting a Stax flagship, it's a truly stunning listen: effortless, transparent, relentless but well-behaved, fatigue-free. a window looking out onto one's music.

Pretty much made up my mind to dig my heels in and get a Sennheiser HE90. There are two Orpheus sets (HE90 and HEV90) available to me right now, but I'm planning to pair it with the HeadAmp Aristaeus rather than the HEV90, so it might take a while to come together. This is going to be my primary focus in the coming months.

Also got some goodies from FAD shipped in an enormous box, but unfortunately I can't talk much about them at this point despite a strong desire to do so.

Here comes the escrow :). I knew you'd cave in and eventually get the Orpheus :P Enjoy your vacation Muppet.
