Yes, this is only happening to certain stores. If they remodel your Best Buy and you live in an affluent part of town, you'll probably get it. Magnolia said they wanted to cater to head-fi people. The only big issue is the 800s were just hooked up to a receiver playing Blue Man Group, and the store is loud; it's quite hard to hear the sound signature. But nonetheless, it's freaking amazing.

And, yes, we get everything Cost +5% Max discount 50% on discount. I work at a older Magnolia, but we can still buy things. The 800 were about $700 on discount, which is sickening, they're almost marked up 120%. Best Buy is redoing their image, go check one out. This was legit!

anyone know if any in NJ is like this already? i haven't been to a best buy since the 360 slim came out that i bought for my brother for christmas.

Sweet indeed, with the BB's taking out stereo shops across america I am glad to see it.  However, I doubt it will make its way to MI anytime soon...and I would almost hate to talk to a sales rep regarding any questions!

X2, but on second thought, I'd probably be better off NOT knowing what I've been missing. They need to get an armed security guard if they sell them around here... the shoplifting capitol of the world. I wouldn't be surprised if an employee would lift them either

hopefully they do that at the best buys around me. i live in  the chicago area, so i'm sure they'll do something.

 

im worried about those hd 800s getting jacked though... also, i wonder how long they will last before people tear them up like the broken beats/bose headphones you see at best buy. losing a display model of beats/sony is alot cheaper than replacing a broken hd 800.

You can talk to the people who work in Magnolia—you always have been able to.  The Magnolia training is utterly ridiculous; at the AV sections they are commissioned and they have an even more intense training.  The guy I talked with was quite knowledgable about the 800.  But, yeah, they will probably end up torn up and destroyed; the only thing being that it's directly in front of the employee section, so they can see.  But, yes, it's quite worrisome.  However it's really good to see Best Buy entering the high end headphone market.  And I seriously doubt you'll see these in areas with a high shoplifting market, they are only doing this to incredibly high traffic/affluent parts of town.  For example, the ones in Dallas with this are in Southlake, Plano, Frisco, Northpark...in Houston they're about to remodel the Galleria/River Oaks one with this, Baybrook, etc.  I don't know outside of Dallas because I'm a Texan for life. cool.gif

I would love to see Best Buys all over start to expose the masses to truly good headphones.

 

The only downside is that they would likely charge full price for them, where as most can be easily found significantly cheaper online. That, and people probably will not realize many of the higher end headphones will require amplification, and good source, etc. Head-Fi basics so to speak.

Yeah, that's what I figured, the Mag rep did start talking about amplification though when I was looking at them.  They're locked up in the box, so for someone to buy them they'd have to talk to a Magnolia employee.
