Fiio e7 vs. e11

I posted this on a review for the e11 but due to the age of the post I decided to open my own thread as well...

I'm not sure if anyone here has also listened to the e7 but I am trying to decide if the e11 is enough of an upgrade to shell out more cash for my setup which is all modestly priced as I am a newb.

In case anyone needs this...my portable setup right now is an iPhone 4 (saving up for a hifiman hm-801 at which point I will not need an amp most likely), fiio LOD connector (the straight connection instead of L shape) and my fiio e7.  My e7 is housed, the majority of the time, as my DAC for the e9 now so it would be nice to have another amp anyways.  I use my Dre Beats (I'm an extreme bass head and yes I know many consider these subpar but I enjoy the bass I get out of these anyways) and my shure se530...also if someone would like to recommend some cans that can pump out as much bass as the Beats but clearer highs and mids for a price point of about $150 - $200 I would appreciate it greatly...but back to the topic at hand...based on my equipment is the e11 worthy of an upgrade from the e7?

This might help - I wrote it a while ago:

I wouldn't call it an upgrade necessarily - but I did prefer the E11 to the E7 from a portable point of view.  I've even used my HD600s with the E11 and it doesn't do a bad job for such a cheap amp.

To me the E7 sounded a little thin and cold (I do prefer a little warmth in the mids though) - the E11 was warmer, but not really (overly bassy).

The bass boost on the E11 targets the lower bass more and is far better than the E7.

Thank you for the response Brooko...What about the connectors on the e11?  My e7 has horribly loose connections with my headphones...The Beats fit fine and don't come out at all but my shure's are extremely bad (I notice connection troubles with the shure's on most setups except my e9 which only offers a slight improvement) and last but not least the connection from the LOD is very loose on the e7 and I experience a lot of interruption in my music when the setup is housed in my pocket (where it is most of the time).  Your input is appreciated!

Do you mean the headphone-out?  I've had no issues so far - mind you I don't use it a huge amount.  Since I got it, I'd inly estimate 100 or so hours.  Anyway - I've had no issues with E11s 3.5mm headphone socket so far.

Have a look at the Audio Technica ATH PRO700MK2, they are within your price range and have some pretty nice bass with the fiio E11 amp. The bass is probably not as overbearing as the beats and that overbearing bass is probably what gives the beats a bad name. There is a review of the Audio Technicas on headfi already. One problem with them is that the ear pads that come with them are not particularly comfortable but i have over come this issue by purchasing a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50 ear pads which are much more comfortable and also improve sound quality for only $30.

Here is a link to the review that has already been posted.
