Headphones recommendation

Hi, I am looking for quality headphones under 100$.

I will mostly use them for beginning DJing and listening to music at home, although I will use them outside also (not much).

I was thinking of Shure SRH440 with SRH840 pads, what do  you think? Is there something better in this budget?

Thank you very much!

Different models by Shure, Sony, and Koss are in your price range. I have also used the Sennheiser HD280 in the past.  I just haven't tried the Shure and the Koss.  The Sennheisers work well for DJing, but they are not as fun for listening enjoyment, due to their really flat frequency response.  I've tried the Sony V6 and V700DJ, and both of those are great for DJing and for listening for fun.  The Koss Pro DJ 100 and Shure 750 get a lot of praise here, and I would like to get my hands on both of those eventually.

Okay so what should I get?

Thanks!

I would go for the SRH750DJ.

+1, the SRH750 is better for your music genre than the SRH440, but this last is a more efficient headphone and would be better than the SRH750 without an amp. The SRH750, imo, really require at least a small amp to really shine.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I heard that they're not very comfortable and bass boosted.. Is that right? Also they cost more than the SRH440.

I find them more comfortable than the SRH440. The SRH750 is bass boosted, but with sub-bass, not really with mid-bass; This is why the srh750 is a good all rounder and can be also bassy with specific music like EDM/HipHop. The srh750 hasn't very punchy bass, but can have deep and tight bass.

But if you haven't at least a small amp, don't buy them.

No actually I don't use any amp currently. What do you think? 440?

I am also open for other headphones suggestions, absolutely not locked on Shures.

The srh440 is much more efficient et dosen't need an amp.

So the srh440 is the best I can get for this budget?

One of the best yes. The SRH440 is a very good headphone for the price, but i don't know all the headphones in this price range.

Better than Sennheisers or Superlux?

And should I get the 440 with 940 pads or 840 pads?

Thank you very much!

If you get the 440 then absolutely get the 840 earpads. If you use them outside too, also plan on getting the straight cable, because stock, they come with a 10 ft coiled cable. Even the straight cable is a bit long and when I wear them out, I end up looping myself with the cable, which works out okay when you layer up but otherwise gets cumbersome. I wear them while doing work in the backyard though so it's not impossible.

I LOVE my Shures. I don't have a lot to compare against but it gives me nice clean bass, and clear mids, and nuanced highs. I'm starting to re-listen to a lot of my songs and I'm starting to discover harmonies that were hidden by bad drivers or cheap headphones/earphones. Snaps, claps, cymbals, and chimes also have emerged from my music. I have PC speakers that run about the same price and the sound from the 440 is considerably better - just to give you a frame of reference for what I'm comparing to.

Okay, and are you using them without an amp? I don't really know what it is, will the sound by okay without the amp? (MacBook Pro mid 2009)

Also, I am going to connect speakers to my mac and the headphones to the speakers. Will I need to install any drivers? Will the sound be okay?

Thank you very much! Sorry for the dumb questions.

The SRH440 is a very efficient headphone and doesn't require an amp to shine, your MBP should be good.
