Torn between hd600 and hd650.

Thread Starter

I am having a very hard time deciding between the hd600 and hd650.  I want to get one and be done with it, don't want to get the 600 and regret not getting the 650.  I see a lot of controversy, there being many people saying the hd600 is better than the 650.

I listen to mostly rock, techno, but a bit of everything.

It will be attached to my audio-gd compass dac/amp.

So far I have the d5000 and love it but want another toy.

Also have s4i, d1001s, and some other randoms

Neither is better than the other, they're much much more alike than they are different.

HD 650 - more bass quantity, laidback, treble rolloff, more euphonic and lush

HD 600 - more neutral, faster, more pronounced treble, slightly more upfront

You can get the HD600 and spend the savings on other gear for your system, or stock up on fresh ear+headband pads - $60/pair+$15+shipping every year or so means they aren't cheap.

Or, you can get the HD650 and avoid finish on the HD600, which some people consider atrocious. I was looking for the HD580J since it's the HD600 with a darker grey finish, but then I realized my room's painted in midnight blue. It's hanging next to a wall and I don't see the marble as much; but then again I didn't really think it was that ugly on its own, just that the 580J and 650  looked better.
