Best headphones under 300 for multiple genres (EDM to piano-ish music) + gaming?

Thread Starter

I've had the HD25-iis for awhile along with the M50s before that which both totally satisfied me for my genres (the HD25's more :)), but I'm wanting something for more at-home as the HD25s aren't that great in comfort..

The genres I listen to are anything from Drum & Bass / Dubstep / Trance all the way to classical-ish music (not necessarily, more likely just a lot of soft songs with a lot of piano in it). I previously bought the FA-011, but moneybookers refunded me after 3 weeks of waiting (a week after contacting them because they also got no response from GD-Audio) so looks like those aren't going to come anymore and I don't want to wait again.. oh and I'd also be using it for gaming + movies :) so I'd love if they'd stay comfortable for a long time (hours). Preferably open but closed works too; just mainly want open ones so I can hear myself while talking as I hate sounding muffled to myself (but I will also use them for FPS and the likes).

Either some headphones or Audioengine A5s / some other bookshelf speaker (or maybe floorstanding.. would 2 $120 floorstanding speakers be better than A5s?)

I DID have a list of headphones to go through, but now I'm unsure again because I was 100% set on the FA-011s.. until I got refunded.

ALSO I love my mids and lows (as in, I NEED punch / possibly rumble, something like the HD25s or better). Treble I'm eh about. Soundstage I love too. I'm fine with the sibilant HD25 treble (hell I don't really even notice it) so as long as they aren't too recessed, making it sound.. awkward.

Edit: Also for earphones, would Etymotic HF2/3/5 compliment my HD25s? Like are they near the same signature wise? Want something I could put in my ear at school where administrators could hardly see it :)

Bassy headphones can sometimes screw up spatial definition in gaming, so with keep that in mind.

For comfort, any Sennheiser HD5x8-series headphone will do very nicely, but they don't emphasize bass in any way.

For bassiness, and Ultrasone HFI-780 or Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700 could work, but neither of those are open and both have comfort issues with some people. If you don't like the fit of the M50, you won't see any improvement from the PRO700, at least.

You could possible get a cheaper-end Grado like the SR60i and one of the Bassy cans mentioned, and just see if you prefer one for gaming and one for music.
