before I start, I need to make clear to all that my old ears suffer from tinnitus and high frequency loss (shooting and machine shop exposure) so I all that I have to say is tempered by these problems. I do enjoy listening to my music (I have eclectic tastes) and wanted to replace some old V-Moda's.
After a lot of research, I was drawn to the units made by Nuforce who seemed to offer a lot of value for your hard earned dollar. I was all set to order their 700X units when I read a review here regarding their models 600 and 770. It appeared after reading the excellent review that the 770X would probably fit my needs and save me some $$ over the 700X units.
Bravo Head-Fi and all the contributors! Money is very tight for me and I cannot waste it. I also recognize that headphones are extremely subjective. In any case I fired off my order and wonderfully, Nuforce, through Amazon delivered them very, very quickly.
I plugged them into my Ipod expecting to hear great sounds. Whoa! I had some sort of very intrusive bass that reverbrated and swamped the mids. I couldn't believe it! It was terrible. I changed the tips for smaller ones to fit me better but the terrible bass was still there. I was really feeling letdown but plugged them in to burn in with lots of hope. After two hours, curiosity got the better of me and I popped them in my ears to get a quick listen.
The terrible bass was gone and in its place was a sweet sounding pair of earphones!!!! YAAAYY!! They were GREAT!!!
Wow! These little guys really do perform. The highs are sparkling, voices are clear, piano music sounds like it is in the room with you, and organ music, wow! (Bach's Tocatta and Fugue will knock the fillings out of your teeth) These are terrific headphones for your dollar. I love them!
So, my very amateurish review of these units is that they give you tremendous bang for your buck! I highly recommend them for what they are - wonderful headphones, worthy of more than their $49 pricetag
At the same time, I got a set of Audio Technica A700s to replace a venerable set of AKG 280s which have given me years of pleasure. I love my new AT- A700s and I am glad I got them. I will be putting the AKG 280s up for sale here when I meet the posting requirements. They are in excellent shape and still have the original headband elastic. They are wonderful cans but it is time to move them on.
Once again, thanks to all who take the time and effort to post the reviews and comments here.
